From Robin Stallings.........

Dear fellow cyclists,

Please forward this message to other cyclists in our 5 county area,

You may have heard of the "Envision Central Texas" (ECT), previously known as "Central Texas Visioning Project". ECT has the promise or holds the threat to greatly affect cycling, trails, roads, rail, neighborhoods, commercial districts, rural areas, and quality of life in the five counties of BASTROP, CALDWELL, HAYS, TRAVIS and WILLIAMSON for the next 50 years.

The Travis County workshops are October 15, 2002, 6-10pm at the Travis County Exposition Center, 7311 Decker Lane, in Austin and October 17th, 2002, 6-10pm at the Tony Burger Activity Center, 3200 Jones Road, Austin. Child care will be provided.

We cyclists can ignore Texas' first ever regional planning effort at our peril or we can participate and influence it for the better. I represent, as a volunteer, the Texas Bicycle Coalition on the ECT board of directors. Many well intentioned people (who will be participating) do not believe that cyclists and pedestrians should be accomodated in planning efforts or with an appropiate share of transportation dollars. I am urging you in the strongest possible terms to please participate in this effort. I apologize for the short notice. Please pick at least one of the six regional workshops to participate in.

The Envision Central Texas workshops are coming up at two locations per day, throughout the region, October 14th, 15th, and 17th. I participated in the first workshop in September and had a real eye opener trying to design our region for a whole lot more people and still maintain the elements that we all love about our place or fix what we don't like. It would behoove us to get involved in the process in order to have a say about bike routes, paved and unpaved trails, preferred growth patterns, mass transit, freeways, densification, etc. It would be great if you could make it to one of these workshops. Check out the website for information on Envision Central Texas and the upcoming workshops.

A number of neighborhood, cycling and environmental groups from all five counties are having an informal meeting to prepare for the upcoming ECT workshops. It will be this Saturday, Oct 5th at the Clean Water Action HQ at 715 W 23rd, Suite R, from 8:30 am to 10:30 am. Come by and learn how to maximize your participation in the ECT workshops, or just learn more about the ECT process

Thank you,

Please call or email if you have any questions.
