Is there any place where people could rebuild some dirt jumps in Waco,TX?
Is there any place where people could rebuild some dirt jumps in Waco,TX?
I'm in the process of gathering support and getting signatures on a petition to allow dirt jumps in Cameron Park. Thank you for showing interest in having dirt jumps in Waco, we will need as many supporters as possible. Before I present the idea to the Cameron Park committee I would like a total of 100 signatures and if possible the support of the Bike Club. If you would like, I can give you a copy of the petition and you can try to get signatures as well.
Bicycle Outback has this petition to sign, too.Thank again for supporting this causes. Now let us get some signatures to get this thing going.
Also, to give you an update on the jumps at the Mouth of the Bosque. The city is filling them in with dead wood, tree limbs and the jumps are no more.I did talk to a park ranger about this and he said that, the reason they are filling is because of soil erosion and they did not get permission from the park to build them. That suxs.
Is anybody out there in Waco,Tx, still want to build some jumps.Give me a shout if you are down with this?I have notice that this page has already generated 84 hits in the past 3 day.
i have spoke to the pres of the waco bike club and he informed me he is going to push for the build of a pump track in cameron park. hopefully we'll be able to squeeze one or two big air jumps in. however, he did say he had two other events he has to organize before starting the pump track; which might take awhile. in the meantime i've been youtubing all sorts of pump track and dirt jump videos trying to get an idea of what we need out there. i'm going out there today, for the majority of the day, to scout around and see what we have to work with.
I was going to tell you,as far as a spot to build, just make sure it is next to a water source and it is not located in a flood plain(that is why the Mouth of the Bosque was so great, plenty of water). There is plenty of room for some dirt jumps down in Cameron Park or somewhere else in Waco,TX.We just got to stay positive. K
Emmon's Cliff area would be great -- to the right where the covered picnic tables are. It's got a gentle slope. Should be water(or there used to be). Easy access if we can get the city to donate some dirt.
I like the pumptrack idea and it would be nice to have a couple lines of jumps for different abilities.
The one thing I have noticed is that if the jumps get too big is when the authorities remove them.
"No bike does everything perfectly. In fact, no bike does anything until someone gets on it to ride."
I here you.I am old man.If everything goes right,I was planning to have a slacker line or old man line which would have a couple of tabletops ,some berms, and roller. Then if you want some big to bad bones jumps put on a different line. The idea is if you are novice, you can still ride. The more support for get for the jumps, the better it is for everybody.I went down to the trails yesterday and those horse can tear a trail up.
Update,I did talk to fight4freedom and he is already got 58 signatures. He said that he would like at least 100.If you are interested,go to Bicycle Outback and sign to petition.Support the local riders. Thanks

"What they have in common
– A key person with the passion to see the project all the way.
– Professionalism in working with the city and meeting its requirements.
– Support from riders, parents and neighbors, as well as area riding clubs and businesses.
– Patience. As Huntoon said, many of the kids who first asked for a Pleasanton BMX park have left for college."
