    Skating Anyone?

    Just FYI….
For anyone interested in inline skating we have 2 world class indoor speed skating coaches in the world in Waco, and they’re starting a new speed team. Skate World, 401 Towne Oaks, Waco. There was an article about them (Charlie Lucas & Chris Tidwell) in last Friday’s Waco Tribune Herald.

It’s also a great indoor workout (especially during the winter). For anyone who likes to skate and likes speed this is the place to be.

Indoor Inline racing is done at the skate rink and is just like the short track ice racing you saw at the Olympics with Apollo Ohno. And it’s great cross training for cycling…builds lots of leg power and strength and quickness.

Helmets are required and I’ll bet you can rent inline skates at the rink for the practice. Currently the practices are from 6-6:45 pm on Friday evenings at Skate World. Call Charlie or Barbara Lucas for information at 254-722-7500.

Yeah, member of Texas Inline Racing back in '97-'99. One of the guys I skated with (and who could kick my ass any day of the week) went on to be coached by Chris Tidwell on the world speed team: Jonathan Garcia

I might swing by for old time's sake and to meet the guy, but I traded in my skates long ago for two bigger wheels.

I hope you do come by to say hello. Charlie and Chris would get a kick out it. And the practice time is changing to 5:30-6:45 beginning this Friday.
Jonathan Garcia has been doing great at the outdoor inline racing too.

I forgot to add that my husband and I also race outdoor inline road marathons. We're always looking for skaters to train with. We recently moved to Waco, so still searching for outdoor skaters....we cross train on the bikes.

Any level is fine. Gotta start somewhere.

Outdoor marathons? I could hardly ride more that a few miles before I feet were numb from the vibrations!

Then again that was back when the wheels were only 80mm. Big wheel trends everywhere!

lol...yes the wheels have grown...most use 100 or 110mm wheels now. Both indoor and out. And yes it takes a few weeks for your feet to adjust to that outdoor vibration.

But despite the big wheels Chad Hedrick still holds the record for the Northshore Inline Marathon (26.2 miles) set in 1998 on 80mm wheels....57min 18 seconds.

If anyone's interested check out www.inlineplanet.com

Typical marathon times range from 2-3 hours for the rec skaters to around 1:10 for the faster pros.
