    Advanced Trail Building School

The International Mountain Bicycling Association's Trail Care Crew of Nat and Rachel will be in Austin to hold an advanced trail building school Friday, March 3, through Sunday, March 5. [b]You do not have to be a member of IMBA or ARRMBC to attend any of this. It is also not required that you have already attended a basic trail building school or have trail bulding knowledge, though it will be extremely helpful. We'll be discussing and learning how to build technical trail features and advanced rock work.

Send me an email at dburatti @ austin.rr.com (no spaces) indicating your intention to attend and what sessions you'll attend. Directions and other particulars are below.

    Tentatively, here is the schedule:

    Friday, March 3:

This session is not required to attend the classes on Sat. and Sun.
    6:30 PM - 7 PM social mixer
    7 PM - Slides w/ Qs & As

REI on Capital of Texas Hwy. pending reservation - We'll probably be in the conference room upstairs. Just go to customer service in the back and tell the REI folk why you're there.

    Saturday, March 4:

Meet at 8:45 AM ready to walk at 9 AM to the trail-side classroom

Russell Park at Lake Georgetown in Georgetown (Directions below)

All the learning wil take place on the trail while actualy performing the work. We'll be learning how to build technical trail features using imbedded and loose rock (limestone) and potentially juniper wood.

    Sunday, March 5

Meet at 8:45 AM ready to walk at 9 AM to the trail-side classroom

Russell Park at Lake Georgetown in Georgetown (Directions below)

Content of this day's session will depend on the rpevious day's activity.

    Directions to Russell Park:

    Take I-35 north into Georgetown.

Take exit 261A for Williams Dr./2338/Granger/Andice/Lake G-town, etc.

Turn left at the light onto Williams Dr.

Go approximately 5 or 6 miles and turn left onto CR 3405. You should see a brown sign on the right before the turn telling you to turn there for Russell Park. Before this turn you'll pass a Sonic on the right, an HEB on the left, Sun City and a church on the right. You'll also pass Jim Hogg Rd., which leads to Jim Hogg Park.

After turning onto 3405, go a little over a mile and turn left onto CR 262. You should see a brown sign on the right before the turn telling you to turn there for Russell Park.

Follow this all the way into Russell Park. Look for us on the right right after you enter the park.

Recommended things to bring: sturdy footwear, eye protection, long pants, hat, sun block, work gloves, water and food. Tools will be provided. Feel free to bring your favorite pulaski or pick ax or mattock, if you want.

I prefer to be contacted by email as listed above, but if you need to call me, you can reach me at 512-797-RIDE (7433.)

The advanced school is back on. Sorry for any confusion or inconvenience. THERE IS A CHANGE, HOWEVER. The slideshow/social time is NOT happening Friday nor at REI. It's Thursday at BSSS I think at 7 PM.

The Sunday session venue and format has changed. We'll be doing a rolling assessment at City Park at 10 AM, stopping along the way to discuss the trail and session the TTFs.
