    Fiskars Power Stroke tool

I picked up one of these at Home Depot and love it for clearing brush.

It allows you to cut up to 1.5" shrubs at ground level without bending over each time, and let you cut overhead stuff easily that would be out of reach for loppers.

It let's you reach right through the branches and get to the one you want to cut.

It's kinda pricey at about $40, but I can say from experience that it let's you work longer and with less back strain.

Another side effect is that the ability to reach a Youpon trunk at the ground saves multiple cuts with loppers just to trim it back, and clears a wider path for the trail by taking the whole bush. This means the trail won't need clearing as often.

I really have found the Fiskars products to be well designed and durable. Their short geared anvil loppers are great, and I've had a retractable saw (lost at RHR) that was very nice and easy to carry too.

    Actually

It's called the Pruning Stick. LINK

Power Stroke is the technology that makes it work.
