    Austin Mountain Bike Patrol

The Austin Ridge Riders are happy to announce a re-launch of the Austin Mountain Bike Patrol (AMBP)! The purpose of the AMBP is to educate, assist, and inform riders on the trails.

Here are 5 great reasons to join us:

    1. Ride your favorite trails and improve your skills

Like to ride Walnut Creek, Barton Creek Greenbelt, Lake Georgetown, Reimers Ranch, Pace Bend, or Slaughter Creek? Then help us patrol or lead rides on those trails!

    2. Educate trail users about the rules of the trail, park policies, and routes

Do you know the Six Rules of the Trail?
    1—Ride on open trails only
    2—Leave no trace
    3—Control your bike
    4—Yield to others
    5—Never scare animals
    6—Plan ahead

    3. Promote a positive image of mountain bikers with the general public and land management officials

Want to keep your favorite trails open? Help promote a good image of mountain biking and play an important role in keeping existing trails open by educating bikers on the importance of respecting the trail and other users. And help keep trails in good condition by working with trail stewards or land managers, and reporting trail problems or unsafe conditions. It’s a win-win situation!

    4. Assist trail users with basic mechanical repairs

Can you fix a flat or a broken chain? Air up a shock? Adjust a pedal or brakes? You don’t have to be a mechanic to help!

    5. Provide basic first aid for minor trail injuries

Like to help other people? Who knows, that injured rider on the trail could be your best friend!

Oh, yeah, and the Austin Ridge Riders will pay for the following items:

    - first aid certification
    - CPR certification
    - IMBA patroller membership
    - patroller jersey and socks

For more information, contact Carla at arrambp@gmail.com.

Would they pay for a two day class in Terlingua this coming January?

I would like to make one of these. Unfortunately, I already have about four things that I can't do for that day.

We'll be at the east trailhead at Pace Bend Park at 10:00 am - not Walnut!

PS - Charlie, hope you can make this!

    3/20 Patrol foiled by rain!

The weather gods aren't in our favor for a patrol at Pace Bend on 3/20. Next patrol is TBD - could be Easter weekend or the weekend of 4/17-18. I'll keep you posted!

Has anyone found someplace to get their first aid certification? Two emails to the Austin Red Cross have not generated a response.

If I had waited one more day to post this I would have received a reply from Red Cross.

    Classes are at http://www.centex.redcross.org/classes/index.php

They did say the registration process is not very user friendly so follow the instructions near the top right of the link above.

And, we are out. Who needs a new bike to cause rain?

Never ever call a patrol for a race weekend. There seems to be a strong connection between patrol and rain.

    June patrol dates

We have two patrols for June:

    - Wednesday, June 2, 6:00 pm, Walnut Creek

Meet in the main parking lot of Walnut Creek at 6:00 pm. After a recap of patroller responsibilities, we'll ride out between 6:15 and 6:30 pm.

    - Saturday, June 12, 9:00 am, Pace Bend Park

We'll join the Austin Ridge Riders' monthly ride at Pace Bend Park. Watch the Austin Ridge Riders website for details about where to meet. (We'll probably meet at the 2nd entrance for Mud Cove, just past the trailhead and bathroom 11.)
