    OT - Kayak Fishing

Just curious if anyone else here is a kayak angler. Just purchased a new diablo aamigo.

I have owned a pelican yak for a while and it worked ok, but it wasn't stable for standing and I had to fish sitting low in thw yak and it wasn't comfortable or the way I like to fish.

Ill be able to walk all over this beast to fish. What do you guys fish from and what is your primary fishing area? Here is a pic of what I have ordered. This isn't mine, but looks exactly like it.

standing up while fishing is nice and diablo makes a good kayak..I think they're still over on manchaca road..I fish mostly lady bird lake using flukes, there are some huge bass out there..Ive talked to a few regulars and their setup is not like anything youve seen before..other than that, I fish the coast when I get a chance...the port A area has nice paddle routes..

Yeah. One of rhe reasons I bought diablo was because they were a local company and I like keeping things local when possible. I am looking fwd to doing some fishing 🐟 at the coast. This rig will work well in the flats and bays.

I've never tried my Frenzy in flat water but I can imagine paddling that very far, I get worn out paddling 500 yards in the breakers dropping shark baits.

I just bought an inflatable kayak. Fishing seems contraindicated.

Most of the time, I plan to be in water with a current (rivers) so the water does most of the work, but when I'm not, it will just be good exercise. If it gets to be too bad, I can always install a trolling motor on the back

That's a cool yak and you can easily transport it anywhere.

Nice choice on the Diablo. I fish with a guy who paddles one. It isn't the fastest thing on the water, but so stable. Kayak fishing is fun. There is something peaceful about gliding along looking for fish to drive sharp metal hooks into their face. I've got a WS Ride 135 that I fish from around the local lakes, Decker, Bastrop & Pflugereville mostly. Love going down to the coast when I get the chance. We've been going to Matagorda a couple times a year for the last few years now and have started to know some of the spots pretty well. I've been BTB to the oil rig out there twice. That's wild! Caught some sharks including a big one that took me on a sleigh ride for a several minutes before he broke off.

WS makes some nice yaks and were on my list when I was trying to decide what to get. Don't know that I want to catch a shark on a Yak, but I bet that was a fun ride, lol

The guys that fish btb (beyone the breakers) catch all kinds of big fun looking fish.

I don't know that I'm interested in big water. But I'm def in for bays/flats. I really need to stop buying stuff so I can afford a genset so I can camp on the beach.

I've got a WS Tarpon 120. It's not too bad to paddle, but the seating position is a little low for fishing, can be a bit awkward casting.

the open the water comment reminded me of my 50th bday in a small wooden pos boat off of the coast of belize when a tropical depression came on as we spun around on the anchor w winds gusting up to about 60 mph w it raining sideways for a couple of hours about 4 or 5 miles from land...everyone on the boat next to us was balling and curdled up...my now exwife was curled up on the floor at my feet, sobbing and praying...and I just kept drinking Belikins and didnt give a fck...I fig'd if the Man was going to call me home then there was no need in me getting upset about it..sometime not giving a fck is the best way to go...helluva a day havng to navigate w an iphone back to the island when it lifted enough in a flooded boat while holding two wires together to get the bilge pump to work then running out of gas 100 yard from dock...the crack head captain taking me to a nasty @ss ho-house that I didnt realize until I was in there and having one beer and leaving w/o touching anything..then getting a nasty 4-6 hr bug attack that left me shaking and freezing in the tropics...yeah, great 50th bday..but we did catch a lot of fish and lobster...

You can catch big ugly fish inland just like you can off the coast. How would you like to pull this up?
