I bought the subz cooler. Made in dallas and 1/3rd the price. Its kind of nice to leave it in the truck and just have cold drinks days later. I am too cheap to ever buy something like the Yeti cooler.

I have a YETI 575. Love it to death.

And their lawyers again prove to be the hardest working employees there. It's getting to be like the guy who goes around hunting for non ADA ramps at local restaurants.

Yeti sues 3 more companies over ?confusingly similar? tumb

I spent 2 years of my life selling products to contractors who inspected ~3000 Gas Station/ C-Stores to avoid just that issues.

I just returned from a 2 week camping trip with the family and two Yeti coolers. I had to refill them with ice exactly once and they were refilled with beer and food several times. They work and are worth what they cost when it comes to camping.

I suppose HEB will soon be among the list of those being sued. I picked up some of their "KODI" brand tumblers recently, and it made me think of this thread.

So I already lost my cheapie Contigo from Home Depot......and I don't even care. (Left it on my car roof or something) Gonna just get another for $12 tomorrow. See half my thing now is not caring when I lose something.
Like the $7 Hellraiser shades I get from Alamo Welding Supply. Gone? Whoops. Don't care. Cheap replacement. Ride on.

I have some YETI products and then some other brands. I always thought it was just trendy marketing and "I wanna look cool" hype. That change a little after using a few. Here is my take on the different types.

    1. Tumblers - Brand really makes no difference so go with the one you like for the least money. I have a YETI and a bunch of cheap knockoffs, no difference in performance.

    2. Hard Coolers - For a short outing or even just for a day at the park with family, a cheap Igloo will do the job. If you need stuff to stay cold for days, any rotomolded cooler will be fine. Plenty of cheaper options than YETI that will get it done.

    3. Soft Coolers - This is where, imho, YETI has the best product. Waterproof zipper, awesome shoulder strap and handles, and they are super tough for being a soft beer purse. You would still be okay with RTIC or even Ozark Trail here, but it won't match the YETI Hopper.

The big factor is how you will use it and how often. A $400 cooler won't be necessary for most people.

Yesterday I was at a house outside of Johnson City on the Pedernales-
    Me and Family (4)
Owner of house and family (4)
extra kids ~10- of which 6 were UT Students.

There were (6) Rotomolded and (3) Softsided there. It was a funny site to see.

I took my 65 with 10# of ice full of cold drinks and food. It sat on porch getting opened and closed and when I left at ~6 pm drove home and cleaned out it was still 10# of ice now in my freezer. I also loaded our 20 with ~8# of ice and full of adult beverages in cans that my wife drug around and took it out onto the river and then kept it out there overnight and it came back reloaded with drinks and food and about 2# of ice.

So yes would my Igloo have worked fine- for the 1st leg out there and for me to bring back, yes but ice would have been gone. However for the overnight porting wife would have had to get ice this AM to bring all that food home.

Bottom line- are those coolers &^%$ heavy when loaded YES but do they keep ice and shit cold easily- yes so that for us is worth it. We also have the Ozark Trail soft side and thats our go to half day cooler ice blue ice. Way lighter, nice strap and easy to carry around.

Update: The $12 Contigo mugs from Home Depot fit in bottle cages. (My insulated Camelbak doesn't even stand a chance.)

You know that feeling you get when you open a big bag of chips only to find a few chips in the bottom? That's the feeling I get when I open a Yeti. 40 pounds of cooler that can house 1 sandwich and a beer. If it's a light beer. Bring whiskey instead.
