I didn’t ride enough. That’s changing. I did get the annual Angel Fire trip in, and might get a season pass this year.

Worked enough to play a lot. Just grateful these 57 year old bones still hold up to snowboarding, hydrofoiling and mountain biking, so I plan to run this machine as long and hard as possible. Hope to do even more of it with my old friend Borgniner.

I got to spend a couple months rehabbing from 15 broken bones and 2 punctured lungs after being hit by another rider on a beautiful Ducati Panigale. It got me off of the street and back on mountain bikes so there is that. Sold my road bike too. Now it's single speed and Scalpel, no streets.

This is where I belonged all along.

"Tra la la, la la la la..."

Watched the Banana Splits most afternoons back in the early '70s. Still don't know what was down in the cellar.

Thankful I was able to start riding again. In 2014 I had a spinal cord injury that the spine specialist thought would require an operation, and even with it, he said that I might not be able to do all that I did before it happened. And yet, here I am... No operation thanks to an awesome chiropractor (BTW, recommended by the back specialist as a last resort before surgery)... Riding a mountain bike (or what I think is a mountain bike) for sometimes two to three hours, and playing squash for sometimes two hours. And I'm a 4.5 level squash player, which is just below the top amateur levels of 5.5/6.0.

I'm also really happy that I can ride out of where I live and be on a 70+mile trail system in less than two minutes. Thank you all who worked to build this great trail system we have in SW Austin. I hope to contribute more time to helping build and maintain it in this new year.

Most importantly... I give thanks to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

completely quit drinking alcohol January 23rd 2017, so its been almost a full year, lost 40lbs, tons of riding, saw quite a few amazing new places, built new quiver of bikes, won my first enduro & series, built lots of new trail.. 2017 was a good year

I'm assuming it was a good one. Excellent.

I've never understood why people resent hearing about other people's joy. Especially the joy that friends had. Why would anyone not want to hear that their friends were having fun? They aren't at all "bragging" Christmas letters, or "annoying" I-did-this on Facebook things to me.

Good news from others thrills me. Being human is enough of a challenge, we don't need to breed negativity.

I amazed myself with how much my riding could improve even pushing 60. Also learned the hard way not to get too overconfident - seem to have just about fully recovered from a scary neck injury sustained on a drop I wasn't ready to take. Most importantly, took stock in my life and what's truly important. Ditched social media (with the exception of this Forum), and focused on being a better husband (it's never too late for that either). Amazing how much we take things for granted, or worse, feel entitled to more than we really need or deserve. By appreciating someone simply for how much they love you instead of what all they do for you, I've finally learned that everything else sort of falls into its rightful place. Sorry to get soft on you guys, but the important message here is to never give up on growing up. Even when it happens later in life, it is amazing.

Moving to Austin gave me the opportunity to explore roughly 35 new parks, ranches, recreational areas, HOAs and other random mountain bike trail systems over the last 6 months. There is such a wealth of trails within 3 hours of Austin.

Bartman plays harder than anyone I know, and he even left out a few things like cruising a badass Vette. I got to join him on some of these adventures and wrapped up an amazing year with a ride in the woods with some good friends.
