I was working on west lynn and saw a couple riding scooters, then parked one and both people DOUBLED away on ONE scooter, chick in front dude steering behind. This is going to be a thing until the motors burn up.

I think the first death by strava was a biker in SF who hit a pedestrian at some obscene speed trying to capture a KOM.

Did a big loop today that included Town Lake Hike & Bike Trail. I rode a portion of the north side and the entirety of the south side. I saw at least seven of these signs, generally near major access points:

Hmmm, I guess the official name of that trail is the "Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail".

Awesome! I guess e-cyclocross bikes around the heritage trees shouldn't be a problem.

I figured it was only a short period of time before someone had a critical injury.

This has been my fear all along. No helmet, *maybe some/alot alcohol*, low speed crash = severe head injury.

No helmets, and no training at all.

My wife and I were pondering what liability limits these scooter companies are carrying. They will of course get sued multiple times. It doesn't matter how many "I know this can kill me" boxes people check when they are signing up.

Saw 2 Segways on my daily ride yesterday. Was going to say something but didn't see any signs so I wondered if the area near the dog park is ok. Apparently it is not.

Somewhat off topic: On my bike commute to Hyde Park Gym yesterday morning, I saw a guy at Parkfield and Braker on an electric unicycle/solo wheel. On the plus side, he was wearing a serious body armor shirt and a helmet. On the downside, he was listening to amplified music. We crossed the intersection together; he turned off at the next side street. He was using the sidewalk, not the bike lane and we were going about the same speed.

The Statesman yesterday had a front page article about scooters, prompted by the accident discussed above. One of the companies has a "requirement" (wink, wink) that those renting the scooters wear a helmet (wink, wink) which users agree to on the app (wink, wink).

Well, this is dismal news. There's a possibility that e-bikes will be approved on the Town Lake trail. If you are opposed to e-bikes and all things "e" on the Ann and Roy Butler Trail, take this survey, which will close on August 20.

A link to the questionnaire is here.

Is it cool if I bring a YZ450 on Town Lake now, has electric start. I want to get some exercise.

Answered the questionnaire, thanks. These things were annoying as hell on the Town Lake Trail before they were banned. Not looking forward to seeing them again out there.

Asked some cops on the town lake trail this morning what the fine was for riding a scooter on the trail. $1-500 depending on how the judge is feeling.
