A few years back I had a very nasty heat stroke, and now as a lasting result I get very bad leg/calf cramps. After trying a number of ways to fight them, I started using the "Pickle Juice" bottles they carry at HEB. I still feel the cramps coming on, but never get to the severe state they would without the pickle juice. My wife runs marathons and has had issues in the past with cramps as well, and she carries the packets of Sriracha sauce with fairly decent results.

Heat stroke is bad juju. I thought I knew my bodies limits, but that shit sneaks up on you fast. I'll probably never fully recover from it.

Sportlegs for that. So nuun AND sportlegs should be in y'all's camelbak for those kind of rides. SL got my feet back under me multiple times at some NUE races when I cramped solid or jellylegged. Thanks to some riders who stopped and shared their stash.

And how much time do you spend outside for your work little guy?

My frozen CamelBak bladder topped off with water worked well. I might pair that with John's insulating liner for better results.

Also, I plan to ride the Goodwater loop again Friday morning for that sub 3 hour lap. Planning properly, the heat doesn't bother me. I actually feel so much more fluid in the heat than the cold.

I think my first post ever on BikeMojo, some 17 years ago, was in response to a thread you started about heat acclimatization.

hah! Just tweaking your punk ass, Sweetie..One thing that Iíve learned from working on Oil Rigs in STX, attics in Houston, refineries & pipeline ditches in SE TX in the middle of the summer time is that you make more money w your mind then you do w your body..work smarter not harder, sugar britches
Btw, what are you doing outside not including sporting an orange vest while picking up trash for community service credit for the county...painting lines in mall parking lots?

Coincidentally I have a friend from central NY in town for a 3 or 4 park & ranch tour this weekend. Goodwater has been selected for a Friday early AM ride, but given that it is his first time on the loop (and in TX), it'll probably be a photo heavy chill ride. I'm guessing just over 3 hours, unless we stop for a swim along the way.

That dude needs to be careful. This kind of heat (without acclimatization) will melt him!

Yeah, no kidding. We've been dreadful watching the extended forecast since it has been out. Our plan is to start our Fri/Sat/Sun rides as early as we can manage. I think all will be well so long as we can end our rides around noon or before each day.

Hell, I'm not even acclimated to it yet since the real heat just hit. I still remember my first fail'd Goodwater Loop the same week I moved to town last year--I took that lesson very well. He will get the benefit of my fail experience.

No it's banana and pickle juice pills. Potassium for cramps go away. Works in about five min. Like.

I hope you guys enjoy it. I'm aiming for a Strava top five; this trail is the only one I run Strava on and plan to hit it early.
