I guess you're right.... I was just thinking of it as a guy who's seen all types of trails all over the place, show him some stuff he probably wouldn't expect here

Take him to Thumper. It's not secret, it has plenty of chunky gnar, it has plenty of technical climbs, and when he's finished he'll tell everyone to never ride here again.

For better or for worse, the answer here is yes. If this guy (or anyone really) can put together content that garners MILLIONS of views over 30-40 videos, then companies will pay real money for this kind of eyeballs....and the fan-base will support this kind of gathering. Whether its movie stars, athletic stars, news anchors...or youtube stars, the economics and the "fandom" pretty much all work the same.

Relax, its just dinner at whole foods. I wouldn't concern yourselves on which trail he rides beforehand, if he even does. Lastly, it costs a dollar a month........

I like his channel, though I wish he'd go back to more hacks and weird stuff. The Wal-goose fat bike, the tall bike, and all of the hack episodes are awesome. The beginner MTB series could have been great, but the YouTube trolls were brutal to the women he was helping learn to ride which was a shame.

BS... Your friends come in from out of town and you'd say to them "Sorry, I can't show you the local's only trails"... Not buying it. Even here on Mojo I've seen offers by some to take non-locals on rides that include less known trails.

Seriously, what are folks here... 14 years old.

Folks pay money to "test ride" bikes so that the manufacturers can maybe sell them an overpriced one.

This guy has paid his dues and built a little business for himself and family... And you're going to sit at home on your computer and become offended by him.

Grow the fuk up... Your money sends politicians who do less for you to D.C.... Find a political forum and do your whining there.

I think the point is that we don't want him making videos of "grey area" trails and putting them on the internet where literally thousands of people will see it and start asking "where is this?" that will accelerate the problem of secret trails getting blown up and shut down.
edit- he's also not going to want to waste his time making videos he can't share.

mack_turtle... The guy built himself a nice little business out of a hobby... Do you think he's just plain clueless?

Really, what... The only "grey area" trails this guy encounters in all his trips across the US are here in Austin?

Every thought that he might be able to pass on some good advice based on his interaction with mtb trail builders in other parts of the country.

    Build community... Not animosity.

no, I don't. but I suspect that the nature of his business means he's "on the clock" most of the time when he rides, especially when out of town. he's likely going to want to film whatever he rides and report on it, so it's best that he ride legit trails. anything that he can't film and share in good conscience might be a waste of his time for that reason. so I stand by the idea that anyone showing him around should not waste his time showing him stuff that he should not film, and risk access to trails by sharing secrets with the whole world. this is not because I am a snob, but because it's in everyone's best interest.

I've helped this guy w a bike rack once, but then had to put him on ignore. Then after he chilled out for a while did an un-ignore. Now I have to re-ignore.... but I'm not sure I have what it takes to re-un-ignore. Nomasay?
