Free day in Lake Tahoe. Should I go park?

I'm going to Phish shows to be a recreational hippy again for a few days in Lake Tahoe in July and....to park or not to park, that is the question. Then of course all the other questions....which one is best, best deal, best views? Or should I rent and roll Rim, Flume or Mr Toad? I'm an ex skier, love chairlifts in general and relaxing while sucking in great scenery, like big blue lakes from ahigh. No pedaling would be Heavenly, right?

I know two people, one who lives there and one who did. They rave about the trails. I'm not a DH guy so I would find some XC trails to ride, but that's me. One way or another you should definitely be on the trails while you are there.

Iíve only been snowboarding once there...went to Heavenly. I was really struck by the view from atop demonstrating the clear demarcation between (i think) the Nevada and California topography. I will make it back there some day. Iím about to get a dual sport/enduro moto...so Iíll get that view again either by mtb or moto.

Ah man, the riding there is kickass. Its not like your gonna step into the freezer. Ride the Rim and I hope you get a Tahoe Tweezer!

Do the park. Northstar is somewhat unique in that is has the only irrigated jump line in North America (Livewire). It's flow/tables/berms all the way down. Access is weird, as you take a gondola about a third of the way up, then have a choice of at least two lifts to access the mountain. The right side of the mountain is more flowy (that's where Livewire is); the left side is more tech - and they do have some gnarly tech.

Can you see the lake from northstar? Also, it's better to be recreational on a chair lift than in a gondola I would think but there may be pros and cons to each.

    Downieville would involve some work.

Started looking at trail map........and I'm like yeah Twigs and Berries! Then I remembered I ride the green ones

Dang DH bike is $172 per day! Will it do dirty things to me for that price? Plus $60 for lift. This is adding up quickly. Dang and it looks like NS is the only game in town.

Looks like nut up and throw down or rental and rim.

If you look at what it cost to fly a bike these days. plus the PITA to tear down and pack, rebuild, then tear down and pack again. Then $200 isnít that far off the mark.

There's only a run or two you can see the lake from Northstar and it's only a little of it. Lot's more viewing from Heavenly.

I did pass a few whore houses driving up 95 to Reno last summer.
    What could possibly go wrong?

I tell folks if they are anywhere within 4 hrs of Downieville, they gotta hit it.

DV gives you some 5000' of vert and you're descending for almost 2 hrs. Yuba Expeditions has a dialed setup for rentals and shuttles. If you go early and don't dick around, you can get two laps...if your hands can take it.

This looks like a pretty good deal for 4 days. Should I do it?
