Bacon Powered Spider mountain - Burnet, TX. New riding venue scheduled to have lift access

So, for those who havent heard - Team Trail Party announced yesterday that Spider Mountain in Burnet, TX (5 minutes north of RPR) will be a new riding venue, and the biggest detail here is that it is planned to have a chair lift. they will be working with the former manager/trail developer of angelfire bike park to make this a reality. parts of the lift have already been delivered to the venue.

the place has 350' of elevation difference to work with. it will be tough to make downhill runs long enough to constitute a lift, but if done correctly, this could be something pretty cool.

    discuss!

What do you think the elevation is at Coler? I would imagine it is pretty close to 350 or so. I am just imagining Coler with a lift and that would be so good. Pretty stoked on this.

Edit: Just checked strava routes at Coler and they all average about 170-180. So double that for Spider. The lift totally makes sense to me.

So you are announcing a mtb park in Texas?

Edit: So that's three companies you rep now? Killing it!

I was hoping someone would start a thread on this! I for one am super excited by this news. So much so, that it's almost a "too good to be true" type feeling and am just waiting for some bad news. I know in the announcement vid he said it's safe to say within the year Burnet will have a MTB park with lift access but personally I think that time frame is a little optimistic. I mean don't you need permits and a bunch of other bureaucratic stuff to develop something like a bike park? Regardless, if it all goes through we will be there OFTEN. Also how would lift access work for only 350 ft? Seems very short though I'm not complaining I just never heard of a chair lift running that short? Is that common?

I'll just stay optimistic about all the "land of the free" red tape and see what happens.. im excited and curious to see what they cook up. it should be pretty awesome regardless!

One of my favorite flow trails of all time is 1.1 miles and only falls 175 feet and climbs 35. If built well, you can get some really long runs with that elevation. Use momentum from high speed sections to go back up the grade before reversing and coming back down, etc.

In costa rica, they just use sketchy minivans to take people up to the Ziplines. Sounds like all they need is one of Seth's cars and a North Shore rack.

Yeah I was really surprised to hear an actual lift. I thought they would do the whole Windrock thing with the truck and giant trailer for people and bikes..

Its not a very "clean video" but it is the announcement. I don't think you need a Facebook account to watch it.

    Much "cleaner video" here -

Both are light on details. Just be happy there may be lift served MTB soon.

Private land in Burnet County won’t have many (any) permits. Backed by a ski resort group and and trail guru and owner from here, I bet it works.

I, Spicewookie, will personally endorse this place, in exchange for a lifetime pass.

    (And I’ve never ridden there.)
