    Lajitas Race 2000

I scanned some more pictures in. Who raced Terlingua in the late 90s and early 2000s? Remember finishing in the old town square and the trials contest, too? They also did contests like log pull, ghost bike, and bike toss. Fun times.

I won the bike-limbo there 3 yrs in a row!

I think I attended that event from 96-02'. I had always found it intimidating because your category racing distance was always so much longer that the other TX Series races. I.e. beginner class (Cat 3) usually raced 7-8 miles...but at Lajitas it was 14-15(?). Same went for Sport & Expert (Cat 2 & 1). It always felt "big & epic".

The Cat 3s didn't race Fun Valley, but everyone had to go over Tres Cuevas Hill.

My first yr was the yr we went down Tres Cuevas. 95 I think. That was crazy on a GT Zaskar with a Manitou fork and terrible brakes. I remember thinking, man it would sure suck to have to climb this and of course every yr after that we did. What a great race it was. I remember one yr Gary Fisher lined up and raced.
