    Walnut Creek is like an...

Electric train set/layout. You have limited space and you have to make it do as many things as possible. Not complaining, I appreciate having it so close to my house. Strava maps look...busy...

But if you must ride on Saturdays/holidays/weekends, consider concentrating on Windy Loop and BMX Loop. Those sections are much less crowded with hikers, dogs, and kids, and they are overwhelmingly (IME) ridden in only one direction, so the MTB'ers you see are not coming straight at you.

Not really pleasant this time of year, but Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the late afternoon/evenings is often uncrowded.

In real need of face-slapper trimming. Rode up there yesterday evening, had my helmet strap hooked by a vine right after the little creek crossing by the fence. And yeh... I took tore sucker apart.

Anywho... Any maintenance days next week... I'll come lend a hand?

Most maintenance days will focus on aspecific project such as repair and Tread.

Face slapper control is best handled by someone who can walk the trail on an off day and cut a mile of trail back.

Or you can do your best Edward scissor-hands impersonation while on the bike if you are riding slow enough.

I'll be back in a week or so and may try to psych myself up for lopping in the torrid heat, sort of a Bridge on the River Kwai scene.

Didn't they use dynamite for that bridge?

I mean, sure, some offensive face-slappers probably do deserve a little TNT trimming ...

It's the torrid atmosphere and sweating I was getting at; no blowing up our WC bridges!

I've been slowly clearing some of the face slappers and new growth.
I trimmed the new growth weeds just where the trail goes under the bridge below the S's at the bottom of power line flow.
I trimmed the mesquite tree face slapper just below that little rock drop near the corner of the chainlink fence of the maintenance field.
I trimmed a bunch of slappers on outer log loops.
On my ride last night I found myself saying, more than once,"Dammit, I'll get that later."
I just keep a pair of ratcheting pruning shears in my camelbak and stop when needed.

Rode out there from 7-10 this morning. Hardly any foot traffic in the way. I'm going to pick a weekday to go and spend some time with Windy Loop. There are a couple spots I haven't made it through yet. Starting to piss me off.

I thought Mojo would be ablaze with the news that a fire burned about an acre of WC a few days ago, started by arson.

I can't get a handle on exactly where, though. Anybody know?

There is a burned area just past the maintenance shed on the North side heading toward Parmer. It is visible from the road.

I'm just wondering when the property owners will begin caring about the camps and fires that happen:

Isn't/wasn't there a giant homeless camp off Waters Park Road in that area? I thought there was a raid and the big camp was flushed out.

If there was, the resurgence of HEB shopping carts nestled into the tree line tells a different story.
