I just PM'd "admin" to express my frustration and further AtariAge's offer to help. I come to mojo to talk bacon, whiskey, and bikes (and nut powder and hot space chicks) and cleaning the board daily has become no fun.

if anyone else wants to bombard the anonymous "admin" with a similar request, they might get this fixed. I remember stumbling across mojo in the early 2k's and it providing friendships, connections, trail knowledge, bike advice, etc. that have all changed my life for the better. the format still works for me, and I hope to see it survive long enough for my girls to log in as PB trail stewards and see what a knucklehead their dad is.

What would it take to just bail out on this admin and move the mojo community to another spot?

I've seen it done on other forums, it's mostly a matter of getting the word out, and of course, time. Maybe name the new forum "bikemofo.com"?

No, they will find that easily enough (typically scanning IP v.4 addresses looking for forum hosting software.)

There are software tools available to vBulletin that can prevent this from happening. You do not need to move the DNS, you just need to keep your sw up to date and apply some filtering rules. Making new registrants wait 24 hours to post their first post, allowing 1 post per hour for the first 30 days, banning any post with mandarin characters and aggressively blocking IP would love 95% of the problems for instance.

My guess is that there is not enough cash coming in to the site to allow them to budget for a lot of the preventive stuff.

Perhaps you need to up the number of "cleaners" in the group.

Also, there are lots of tools to help keep this at bay. Admin should be on top of that.

I'd love to up the number, but I have very limited powers and adding people as admins/moderators isn't on the list. Admin has yet to respond to me.

I think that's the problem; the admin seems to be MIA. This is why starting a completely new community was brought up...

Yeah, I outlined some of that above. Without an active Admin, there's not really much that can be done except to continue cleaning up the mess.

I've got something in the works that could possibly fit this solution. I just need a leeeetle more time.

    Same here.

In full disclosure I've been raising these issues with the site admin for quite some time, nothing has come of it...yet. vBulletin is an excellent platform, but this sites rate of adoption through upgrades is quite slow. The most glaringly obvious and annoying issue is the lack of HTTPS, this is something I've been raising for quite a long time, no action yet. I like this forum, I hope folks don't leave, but some of issues are frustrating. I'm glad to see this forum is still alive in the era of Facebook, which is thankfully on the decline.
