    Angry sometimes..

..I'm so proud to be a cyclist! I open the Statesman this morning and what do my wandering eyes see on B1?.....3 BONEHEAD cyclist (roadies)with no helmets, taking up the whole lane!! That's a good image for the farmers who want us off "their" roads.

    Damn foreigners!

It must be all those non-native Austinites. What do they outnumber Austinites by? 3-to-1 now?

but hey.....u gota admit....ain't it great livin' n this great city, state & country know'n u-r free 2 die of massive head injuries.

but then think again, it could'a been a staged photo & they had 2 take off their helmets & ride 3 abreast so the photographer could get their mugs & bikes n a nice close-up.

    only the shadow knows...........

I used to never understand why roadies always blew off the 'rules of the road' - then I bought a road bike last year and got exposed to traffic...

There are some idiot drivers out there that will squeeze past you any chance they get - regardless of whether you have a shoulder to ride on. I found that it's often better to ride out in the middle of the lane when there's not a bike lane or shoulder - that way the driver can see you and won't be tempted to try and 'squeeze' by. I'd much prefer to have the driver pissed at me than end up bleeding in the ditch because they thought their Excursion was smaller than what it is. Of course, I could still end up bleeding in the ditch, but then it would have to be more intentional on the driver's part.

I also now understand why roadie jerseys are so hideously colored, and why roadies are so bitchy about bike fit. I still don't get not wearing a helmet, the leg shaving thing, and the blowing through red light thing...

not that i'm an expert (on the subject....more like a junkie) but it's all about speeeeeeed & keeping up your momentum.

Helmets & body hair cause drag which defeats aerodynamics.

Y stop at red lights and/or stop signs if u know u can make it through without getting hit. It may not b right & it might b breaking the law.........but it's a chance Some people r willing 2 take.
