I have no recollection to the events to which you are referring too.

I grew up in Huntsville... Phelps actually, but no one knows where that is. I have an uncle that lives off 1097W, in Bentwater.

I grew up on the GSU lake (Lewis Creek Power plant), had it right in my back yard.

GHORBA/Northwest Cycling Club/Bikeland will be holding a huge group ride on Sunday September 23rd to officially open the new NWCC Trail at Huntsville State Park. All Austinites are welcome to come ride with us flatlanders and devour our snacks and bbq. That's right! We're discussing grilling some vittles after the ride. Don't get too excited; we're not having Franklins cater our event. It will more likely be roast armadillo and fried alligator (they saturate the park) or hamburgers and hot dogs. I'll post more information this next week.

I spent 4 days out camping/fishing/MTB'ing this last week at Huntsville State Park. Despite the gawd-awful heat+humidity I had a great time with excellent fishing. I was wisely advised by another member here to get a campsite with electricity for box fans. Best advice!!
My first time there, and certainly won't be the last. Beautiful park! The trails were tame, but some sand with lots of roots. They are still working on Hurricane repair though within the state park, with areas that had machinery crossings that were blocked with trees/branches. I didn't get a lot of riding, just because of the damn heat, and I was jonesing to get back out on the lake for more of those chunky bass.

I highly recommend campsite #142 for isolation and the ability to launch Kayak right from the campsite. Also, it's right at the trailhead.
