Dirt Derby Tues Nite Race and Ride starts Jan 9

    Happy New Year!

The Dirt Derby is back, so make it your resolution to come out and race, ride, or just watch the action!

Racing resumes Tuesday January 9 with a nine week season ending March 6.

I had a great time meeting and racing with you all last fall, and am really looking forward to an even better season of racing. I've listened to your advice, and have been working hard so to offer some exciting changes. You can check out the updated website www.dirtderby.com for the details, but here are the highlights:

Thanks to our growing list of sponsors, including Stan's NoTubes conversion systems, Harlot clothing, MTB Series gloves, Oakley high definition optics, Peak Bias web hosting, and Billy Kurtz State Farm insurance, we've got a huge pile of great prizes. Thanks to CoachAhmadi.com personalized coaching, we will now be offering WEEKLY payouts for the Expert Short Track race and will be giving away a VO2 MAX test administered by Sean Ahmadi.

The Expert Short Track race and Open 'Cross races will now have longer laps, and the Novice race will feature a split course with a double barrier for the 'cross racers.

We will be offering a Season Pass: race the entire 9 week series for $80 1 race/week, $120 for 2 races/week. Women, college students, and juniors are $40 and $60. One hitch: no refunds if a race gets cancelled.

As always, volunteers and sponsors race for FREE, so if you can do setup, take down, or scoring, let us know. Rosie, who I am happy to announce is now my fiancee, has started her dissertation, so more hands would help a ton.

Also, there is no charge to just come out and ride the course - you just need to sign a waiver.

Finally, I am STRONGLY considering extending the season to 16 weeks, ending April 24. I'd most likely change the schedule to drop 'cross and either start Novice a little later, make the 3 short track races longer, or possibly add a duathlon, women's race or something else. I do what YOU want, so tell me!

    See you soon,

Way cool to see this starting up again.

I'm assuming the track got dried out today (Sunday, 01/08)?

Yeah, 3 solid days of wind and sun should make it nice. The exposure means its drys out WAY faster than trails, usually 24hrs is all it need after a major rainstorm.

As always, if there is a problem, it will be posted at www.dirtderby.com, here, TMBRA, TXBRA, etc.

That was sweet last night. I felt the CX tires hooked up in the slightly thick sand. I know the track is usually a lot dryer.

Jackson, nice to meet you last night.

Terry - way to go! You're always fast as hell on those Woodies rides and you showed it last night.

Yes, nice to met you the other night too... I loved both the rides you had with ya.

You still thinking about putting similiar brand/tread tires on your MTB bike that you have on your cross-bike?

We had a great first week of racing.

Ian, Matt, Mike, and Ryan got a fun course set up that spared everyone from the mud, and we incorporated the new hill which was very well received. David Wolfe for brining the VC barriers (Webberville 'Cross this Sunday!) and Jen Joy for helping build our new barriers. Special thanks to Rosie and Taryne for once again making registration fly, and then handing out free cocoa and beer to keep everyone warm.

Thanks to our sponsors, www.HarlotWear.com, www.Oakley.com, www.CoachAhmadi.com, www.NoTubes.com , www.MTBSeries.com, Billy Kurtz State Farm Insurance, Peak Bias Web Hosting, Austin Triathletes, and of course, ADVMX Park for making the night possible (and we've got a few more sponsors in the works).

Sorry for not getting the results online sooner - I wasted a ton of time demoing race management software. I will get them posted ASAP, but they are pasted below.

    1/16 Dirt Derby Postponed

Due to the nearly 5 inches of rain that fell over the weekend, this week's races will be postponed until later in the season.

    Sorry for the inconvenience,

    Andrew

    1/23 Dirt Derby Postponed

We are still recovering from the great flood/freeze/f'in rain of 2007, so no racing again this week. To compensate from the lame start to the season, lets just plan on racing until the end of March.

    Sorry for the inconvenience,

    Andrew

    Race ON!

Put away the trainer and pull the bike out of storage, its time to get back to racing!

By Tuesday night, we will have nearly a week of uninterrupted sunshine and wind to dry out ADVMX, so the Dirt Derby is on.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to fill out our online survey, we would still be interested in hearing your feedback.

We are happy to announce that Clif has joined our growing list of sponsors, so we will have their delicious margarita Shot Blocs and crisp apple Clif Shot Electolyte caffeinated drink available.

As always, there will be beer on tap, and hot cocoa and cider to stave off the cold, free of charge.

Thanks to Sean Ahmadi and his team at CoachAhmadi.com we will be offering payouts in the Expert short track race, with season end awards in the other classes from MTB Series Gloves, Stan's NoTubes, Harlot Clothing Company and Oakley. Also helping make our races fun are Austin Triathletes, Billy Kurtz State Farm Insurance, and Peak Bias Web Hosting.

Thanks for your patience over the past several weeks. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday,

    Andrew and Rosie

    Friends-

Its warm again! And dry! This is why we moved to Texas - to race bikes all winter long. Come and join us this Tuesday night at the The Dirt Derby. We've got a ton of news, so take a minute and read up:

This week promises to be our best racing conditions in ages. There has been no rain in weeks, so track conditions at ADVMX should be fantastic. For those of you that have not been out this season, we have made some cool modifications to the race course, adding in a twisting climb to the short track events, and smooth, stretching and adding a second run-up to the open 'cross race.

If you have not seen it yet, the Dirt Derby is the cover story in this month's issue of The Racing Post - thanks to all of you who contributed to Andrew Willis' stellar article.

Volunteers: We can not make the race happen without your help, but we need to get a little more organized. If you plan on volunteering, please email us before 3PM on Tuesday, and let us know what time you can arrive at the track, what race(s) you plan on competing in, and when you need to leave by. We'll let you know where and what time blocks we'll need you, and put you on the comp'd racer list.

Women's Racing Clinic: There will be a clinic for women looking to try out mtb racing or hoping to hone their skills on February 13. That evening we will be holding a special women's first-timer race at 6:40. All other races will follow their normal schedule.

Prizes: Thanks to Sean Ahmadi and his team at CoachAhmadi.com we will be offering payouts in the Expert short track race (see on the website for details), with season end trophies and prizes that include incredibly comfortable Spenco MTB Series Gloves , tubless conversion systems from Stan's NoTubes, functional, and stylish women's riding wear from Harlot Clothing Company, and a pair of Oil Cans, the official bad boy sunglasses of Texas bike racing, and other goods from Oakley.

Also helping to make our races fun are Austin Triathletes, Billy Kurtz State Farm Insurance , ClifBar, and Peak Bias Web Hosting.

We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday,

    Andrew and Rosie

    2/6 Results and Announcements

    Friends-

The Dirt Derby had its biggest night yet! We had 70 racers and a couple dozen spectators enjoying a beautiful night. Bicycle Sport Shop was on hand providing mechanical support, helping folks get their bikes in race shape for most exciting course to date. Huge thanks to all of our volunteers who made for another seamless night of racing.

Don’t forget that next Tuesday, February 13, the 360 Cycleworks women’s racing team will be hosting a clinic for women looking to try out MTB or ‘cross racing for the first time, or just hoping to hone their skills. The clinic is free, and races are still half-price from women ($5). Clinic participants can join in on any of our race categories, or join in a special women's first-timer race at 6:40. All other races will follow their normal schedule.

Speaking of the ladies, Harlot Clothing Company has their new all black Scarlet-X Knicker is now in stock and on the web at www.harlotwear.com. It is similar to their ever popular Scarlet Knicker but has the power of "X" - an X-Static silver fiber runs through the new silky liner fabric providing natural anti-odor, anti-static, and thermodynamic properties. Pretty fancy. Don't worry, it still is a nice simple cycling pant like the Scarlet Knicker with a comfy fit and stylish lines, but the Scarlet-X Knicker features an updated contoured waistband, small changes to the padding system, and cute little embroidery.

Results are posted online; let us know if there need to be any corrections.

We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday,

    Andrew and Rosie

    Seaon Extended!

We are having so much fun, we’ve decided to extend the season until April 24!

That’s right, THIRTEEN WEEKS OF RACING (give or take a rainout…).

Based on your feedback, there is demand to stick with ‘cross, so we are planning on keeping the current schedule. Want something different – just let us know.

We are also working on putting together a Texas State Short Track Championship race in May or June – stay tuned!

Another fun race last night! If you haven't checked this out yet, you really should. They have balls-out speed, crazy passing, cool people hanging out, and free beer. What's not to like?
