Best Place to Buy Shoes Online and LBS

After the ride sunday I thought my shoes felt sloppy, the seams around the arch of my left is blown out on both sides. I have not had complaints about the Pearl Izuni Vagabonds. Looking for a similar low-medium end shoe with a stiff sole. Not a fan of the "hybrid" type shoes, I like my full on biking shoes (yes I have tried both).

    try shoes out at:

    Austin Bikes (5th and something-something)

BSS (central, better selection than N)

    elsewhere?

FYI, I've a pair of Mavic Chasm I got at Austin Bikes and I gotta say, they're pretty nice. Very stiff sole, decent outers. No clue on long term though (yet).

I'd be interested to see what the Mavic Matra Set is like too, technical-riding shoe by design.

I too need to try on some shoes (my first-ever bike shoes, actually). Anyplace down south recommended? If not I'll run up to BSS.

I ended up getting a pair of Mavics through Austin Bikes. Also ordered a pair through REI from Diadora/Cannondale that no one sells anywhere as far as I can tell.
There is a Performance Bikes down south on Lamar that will have bike shoes.

Bought a pair of Sidis from BSS that have survived about 6 or 7 years but just can't wrap my head around $300 for a new pair of Sidi bike shoes, especially since the start of the austerity era.

BSS has the biggest selection of sizes.
    that's where I get mine.
I try to buy last year's model when possible and save some coin.

Specialized PRO or Expert Carbons, thank you.

Just for grins I emailed Pearl Izumi (since they have a lifetime warranty), they said take them in to your local dealer they should give you a new pair!!!

If that works out I will never switch off Pearl's

    NO WAY!!!

I just replaced my Pearl Izumi Vagabonds for the exact same failure.

Looks like I am headed to BSS after work to get a spare pair for the trail.

    Thanks for posting that up!

I called up University Cyclery they said the way it works is they ship them to Pearl and they ship new ones out to the store. Only way to do a walkin exchange is at a Pearl Outlet it looks like.

Still waiting a week and paying shipping one way is way better than nothing at all. I am thinking I will pick up a second set of the cheap Pearl's and then just start a rotation on an as needed basis.

    Tyler,

You might consider buying the pearls from REI, then you pretty much *could* do a walk in no-questions-asked exchange if they fail... assuming you're an REI member already.

Good call. I am a member. I will check the discount rack at University then perhaps pop over to REI this afternoon (plus I have a 20% off coupon).

I am headed to UC because that is where I originally bought them so they seemed willing to work with me moreso without a receipt.

IIRC, the Gateway REI had a big stack of those this weekend.

Its not too bad. I have had one really poor experience there and the rest were average to good with a few great trips mixed in. I used to use ozone as "my shop" and anytime they didnt have something they would call up UC and check with them and send me over and vice versa if I happened to stop in UC first.

(My one poor experience was with a douchebag mechanic, so it is to be somewhat expected) The guys on the floor are always super helpful.

I only buy shoes from my LBS because there is a "fit" issue that only a local store can deal with. I don't have patience with shoes over the web. Even though you might save money, ultimately LBS is a better choice. I use BSS south.

I picked up a level higher pearl izumi with ratchet straps for 58 out the door.

ALL 08 Stuff is on clearance at UC. Same time and place I bought mine last year.

Now I plan to take the old ones in and get a new pair and have a backup/bad weather pair.

Agreed. Bought both pairs at BSS.
