How not to get a deal...

Customer comes in after demoing a particular bike Wants one and is ready to throw down the cash.

Asks me if I'll price match another shop. Make some calls...can't/ won't match.

Shop owner gets involved. Starting to meet at the midpoint that leaves us all somewhat satisfied.

    Yadda yadda...customer says, while looking at myself and the shop owner;

"It doesn't really matter to me or not [if you guys are around in a year to handle a warranty]."

    Nice.
And what they wanted, Was his eternal Slowdown.

He left saying he would buy it elsewhere. On his end, we ended up $50 above what he wanted to pay. C'est la vie.

I don't anymore. I used to be the bargain hound bitch. Now after the great service I have gotten from HH I never even question it. I go to the shop, I find, I take it to the counter, I buy, no shopping around. (No this is not an ad, Im dead serious).

I just bought my first squishy fork a couple of weeks ago. I looked at prices on the 'net, and could've gotten a good deal there. But instead I went to my pals at The Peddler and they hooked me up pretty good. And because they know I came to them, and will continue to do so, we have a great relationship that will be reciprocated over and over for the foreseeable future. I have that with a few shops in this town.

That guy who tried to work Hammerhead is a loser. He doesn't care about the people who make our sport and our community the great thing it is. Hammerhead obviously knows their customers and how valuable they are; you see evidence of it on Mojo all the time.

Dustin, don't feel like you lost a sale, because that guy would've never come back, save for warranty issues. Another rider will come in, recognize the awesome nature of your shop, and be a customer for life. That works out a whole lot better in the end.

Ditto. I buy at Hammerhead. Yeah I'm sure that I could some items cheaper online, but it's not worth the trouble, and furthermore, HH always takes good care me - often helping me with something at no charge. Can't get that online!

And when I need something ready for a race, HH always puts that extra effort to make sure I'm good for the race.

We all know where I shop. But I told Cody that if he doesn't get my bike ready by today I'm taking my business elsewhere. What made me sad was when he agreed with me that I should

you know, when I ran the shop, 99% of the customers were great to deal with.
there was the isolated customer who was FAR more trouble than they were worth and I regretted selling them a bike....

my dad has always owned his own very succesful businesses and wasn't afraid to fire a customer...

my favorite story was when he was a custom home builder and he worked a flat X percent over cost, present the customer the invoices, add X percent on top and pay. one guy got pissy at closing and he stood up, told my mom to write him a check for what had already paid (about 250K) that he was done dealing with this a**hole and walked out..

sure enough, the guy ponied up what he owed

hehe, sounds like my dad. sometimes you have to know when
enough is enough and just let 'em have it. I have many fond
memories of my dad putting people in their place...only when
they were deserving of it of course

    i second that.

went to hh this week for the first time to pick up a disc brake rotor. i called
another LBS for the part, but then remembered all the good vibes on here about
    hh and went there.

    cody had what i needed.

then we talked for awhile about various mtb stuff, the move, etc.

i went in for a rotor and came out knowing where i will buy my next ride, and
    everything else for that matter.

    thanks, cody.

and, no, this is not a paid ad.

I am still saving my pennies for a new 29er from HH.

bunch of kool aid drinkers... damn...

jenson sells some parts at a lower cost than some shops can even get them for at their wholesale price...

i'll be damned if im going to pay a bunch more for some tires, a cassette, a seat post or most anything that i can put on myself...

It wouldn't be mojo if at least a thread (unrelated to HH I might add) didn't turn into a vaseline fest for the best shop in town.
