    Brushy Creek Regional Singletrack

Has anyone investigated the feasibility of constructing some tasty singletrack along the Brushy Creek Regional Trail?

I've started looking into it officially since there is a severe shortage of singletrack up there. The main trail is nice, but it does not offer much in the way of challenge and/or riding experience.

I was wondering if anyone had officially looked into having legal singletrack built and what his/her experience has been? (Was the proposal met with complete opposition, open-mindedness, reservation)??

I personally, along with some riders I have talked to along the trail, would LOVE to see some nice singletrack up that way....the land is PERFECT for building sustainable, flowy singletrack from what I can see.

I'm not sure if it's sanctioned by anybody, but there are little bits of singletrack off the main trail. It's not much, but it's a start. I agree that - if done right - it could be a great place to build some nice trail. I'm not sure who "owns" the trail. There is a bit of trail on the hill between the YMCA lake and the toll road. If you get on the hike & bike trail at the Y and go over the bridge just after the pavilion, there's a mulch hill to your right. Hop the small rock wall and ride up the hill and you'll hit a jeep road. There are a few singletrack trails that branch off that. It's not spectacular, but it's more interesting than the concrete path.

Yeah, I have been riding that trail since its inception. I know every square inch of available dirt trail, and I even ride on the side of the paved portions to get some "offroad" feel and increase resistance.

I just am ready for some substantial trail out there. The land is WAY too nice to not have some nice trail to go along with it.

I'm establishing connections now to investigate it. I would also like to put in some trail (couple miles I'm guessing) in the Cat Hollow green belt opposite the disc golf course. That, too, is prime land, and there are many riders in this area.

I've done some welding work and outdoor sign proposals for the disc golf course for Brushy Creek MUD. Project hasn't gotten off the ground, but my connect is Mike Wheeler, 255-0332. He may know who you should talk with. Tell 'em Matt da welda sent ya. Good luck.

Oddly enough, I ran into a guy from Brushy Creek MUD today at regal plastics and he informed me that Mike no longer works there as of four months or so.

    Sarge, I'll keep it short.

A few weeks ago we (the builders) met with Wilco P&R Director and Staff. We came clean after they left a note on the trail asking us to contact them. Of course we blasted Facebook running and riding groups known to use the trail asking for their support, before we outed ourselves. The meeting with Wilco was very surprising. Not only do they not want the trail closed, we are officially volunteers of Wilco P&R reporting to the director.

I met with ARR yesterday for a 4 hr on site tour. I won't speak for them, but the meeting went very well. I am still removing parts of my foot from my mouth for my previous critical view of ARR. Honestly, much of my gripe was really due to my expectations.

All that said - West Deception past the double track is CLOSED. This is the short section that joins Deception to the big loop and to the gully. While most of the trail leading to the big loop is Wilco Park land we did encroach on what will be a housing tract, but more importantly we pissed off some neighbors. This closure is more about a gesture and oiling a squeaky wheel. We went into the mtg knowing the situation very well before we sat down so WE suggested the closing and they were very pleased that we did.

We can maintain what we have, we have to get approval to build new trail
We are in the process still of closing the western portion off - we are not touching the gully trail, that's not ours.
We are doing the closure, not Wilco P&R - we agreed on the standards and they trust us.
We have to have the trail evaluated by and outside organization with trail building credentials (thanks Chardog and Spinnicin)
We will need to identify areas of concern
We will need to provide maintenance
We will need to provide appropriate signage
We plan to build a good relationship with and become ARR members and trail stewards
Picnic and Mulligan do not fall within Wilco, they are COA PARD and Randy led on that COA was aware and unconcerned

I have been off the MTB for a while, rear tri is broke. Here is a trail maintenance "run" of Picnic (lollipo along the creek) and all of Deception (east)

Let me know when I can write it up for the site. I specifically took no pictures when I rode it (per our conversation) but would be interested in getting back out there to scope the trail.

That's excellent news! I've been really enjoying that trail (it's a mile from the house and an amazing Friday afternoon workout) - but I've been worried the whole time that it would get shut down as soon as it went public.

And now that I know who's responsible - thanks for all the work y'all put into that trail, I know quite a few people who have really been enjoying it.

Yes! Almost forgot that. I have been enjoying the 7 mile section for about a month now! You guys killed it, and my legs with that trail.

That is the only trail I have ridden as I am new to the area. Any suggestions for other trails in the area to ride?
