Too young to "miss" these, but pretty interesting historical photographs:

Speaking of Northcross Mall, remember the midnight showings of the Rocky Horror Picture Show? The first time I went I was stone cold sober.

I also remember the first couple of Capitol 10Ks when they actually routed onto the Town Lake Hike and Bike Trail. A bottleneck on one of the small bridges by the Town Lake animal shelter sent people, including me, running across the creek below to avoid the backup.

Speaking of the city coliseum earlier, I used to go to Carnaval there before they changed venues.

And Mrs. Johnson's is still there; I bought a few doughnuts a couple of weeks ago there. Remember Winchell's Doughnuts on Guadalupe and 45th? I think that's where it was.

Riding at the gun range on Hamilton Pool Road.

I'm sure I'll think of more.

    Still around:
Poodle Dog Lounge (chicken bingo!) on N. Lamar, The Tavern at 12th & Lamar, Broken Spoke, Deep Eddy Cabaret (it's a beer joint) on Lake Austin Blvd just west of MoPac.

Great video; I love the Clash. I think there was a brief view of The Posse East at Duval & San Jacinto, just north of UT campus. Still going strong after all these years--established 1971. Unfortunately, I got food poisoning there about 4 years ago and it turned out to be a $500 lunch, but it still has a great vibe.

I saw a Clash tribute band play a couple of weeks ago at Red 7 (7th and Red River) called Ghetto Defendants. They're worth checking out !

Riding at the rifle range on Hamilton Pool was more than sketchy for several reasons. I may have developed my goat infatuation there.

D, I saw Rocky Horror Picture Show there too. Was the audience doing lyrics sing along then? Very courageous to go stone cold.

I was 11 years old, so it's not as cool as it would be now.

Who remembers when Mopac ended at 183? If you wanted to go farther N you took Burnet til it ended (and merged with Duval) and then got on 1325 and kept going. I used to work on 183 at Anderson Mill area and had to get off Mopac at 183 and then take some sketchy road that looped around where that shopping center is now.

Speaking of 183- that road was HELL, it was 6 lanes of stoplights from Cedar Park to I-35, I learned real quick how to use Spicewood Springs and avoid it. I lived off Hunters Chase for a bit when I went to ACC (Rio Grande which is all there was) and for an 8 am Class I had to leave by 6.55 or I wouldnt make it.

2:00 - Austin Bike Route sign in front of the Alamo Hotel at 6th and Guad.

Any old-time Austinites remember the Alamo Hotel or Emmajoe's? (Houston: sale, rent) - City-Data Forum

Yeah, by the time I saw it, they were singing and acting along. "A toast!"

I remember when there was no MoPac. When we were kids, dad and mom would drive down the shoulder of 183 between Montopolis and Cedar Park while we kids would walk in the grass picking up bottles and cans to take to Bolm Road for recycling. We put them on the floor board in the back seat and have to put our feet on them when we got back in.

Who remembers the BMX track at Lamar and 183? I never got to ride there; my BMX bike was stolen about six weeks after I earned enough money mowing lawns to buy it...at Montgomery Wards, which was in Capital Plaza near Newberry's, which is where I saw my first adult magazine around the ripe age of five or six.

I also remember the air shows at Bergstrom.

I have a picture of my brother and I standing in the middle of MOPAC on the bridge that goes over the railroad tracks by the Domain. They were finishing it up and I think my Dad took us over to goof around before they opened it up to traffic.

Anyone ever go to Kiddie Acres when they were located where Opal Devines and Fry's is now?
