I was on Candy Saturday and caught a stump with my pedal. Total endo. Landed on my ass and head at the same time. As I was lying there my first thought was, "that's why we wear helmets." Cracked mine.

Today I took my "multi-tool" folding saw and returned to the scene of the crime to extract revenge on that little tree stump.

Candy is a little wet from last night's rain. Somebody has once again mowed Mopac and some of Whirlpool. Fantastic!

Somebody built a cool new thing that solves a problem. You don't have to carry your bike up that thing anymore.
    Well engineered. Well executed.
    Kudos. Excellent job.

anyone want to start meeting up on Sunday mornings at Dick Nichols again, now that the rain seems to have stopped? Even Slaughter Creek is miraculously open! I should have posted this a few day ago.

I found that too. cleaned it on my first try. I have never cleaned that hill until somone set up that reasonable run-up for it.

I probably would have joined this past Sunday. I can't say I'd make it every week, but it is nice to have a regular ride as an option. And it was a ton of fun when everyone was gearing up for the Big Southie with rides every weekend.

Are these Saturday/Sunday South Austin rides open for beginners?

no one is going to leave you behind and most of the terrain is beginner-friendly. there are a few rock gardens and creek crossings you may have to walk. you might plan to hang on as long as possible and then bail out mid-ride. most of the routes we take make it easy to pedal back to the DNP lot on roads if you have had enough.

Hmmm. My rides are usually 4-5 miles so I could probably hang with you about half way. Maybe more if it's not too technical.

What time on Sunday? Or was it Saturday?

I'd really like to come along on Sunday if anyone is interested. Dick nichs is 5 minutes ride away from me so would be nice to know what I can ride without driving.

Sunday 9 am at DNP is the tradition. I usually work Saturdays, but those happen sometimes too.

    Saturdays work better for me.

I think it is legal to have a ride both days. I'll look that up.

I tried to ride yesterday but I managed to bust up my tailbone pretty badly while riding to work the day before (don't pedal while rounding a corner, kids) so I got 3 miles or so in and went straight home.

instead, I got my pathetic machete and some other tools and did some trail work on the stretch between the Valero on William Cannon/ Brush Country to the bridge over Brodie. hiking the trail gives you a new appreciation for it, so I recommend it. I knocked back a lot of the undergrowth along the main trail where it was over six feet high. after a while, my machete-swinging mucles cramped up so I just used my boot to stomp the weeds back. hopefully those areas of deep grass and weeks are more pleasant to pass now.

bonus info- if you are going to buy a machete, buy a big, long, heavy one. the "portable" short machete I have is good for yard work, but it does not have enough weight and momentum to really hack through stuff. get one that is big enough that it creates its own momentum to slice through the brush.

if my butt is feeling better on Sunday, I will be out at DNP at 9 am.
