There have been tons of "newly positioned rocks" on Bambi over the last few months... discovered it's the people who live in the apartment complex that want mtbrs to slow down. I've spent a couple hours each month removing 100's of rocks and a sh!t ton of wood debris they've strategically placed on the trail. They don't block off the trail, they just place that sh!t in the middle of the trail, mostly on blind turns. I've removed it all only to have it back the next day... so, I removed it again and again and again.

    Ugh

    Ugh and sigh.

I rode it slowly today. If they want to put the same rocks back on the trail, they are going to have to walk 30 feet into the woods to retrieve them from where I chunked them! Eventually they will run out of rocks. I have no idea as to their motive. Slow us down? Why? Too noisy for them as we glide almost silently by? Too much of a danger to baby possums?

Just got back from a ride. Dick Nichols, CC Metro, DiscGo DiscGo, Phoenix, 45, Firehouse, Bambi. Everything was good to perfect. I rode Phoenix East also. It is NOT good to go. It might not be good for two more days. And that's if they stop dispersing water in there right now.

    Long time lurker...
Rode down Bambi around noon today - covered with softball sized rocks again. I cleared off the top part of the trail near Bird's. But the middle area was also littered with rocks - just a heads up in case anyone rides it in the dark tonight.

Honestly, can you blame them? So many blind corners and people bombing it non-stop.

It's me. I put the rocks there to protect my KOM.

    Just kidding. I don't have a KOM.

Seriously though, the rock minefield sounds like a lot of work for whoever is doing it. It sounds personal. Or some bored old fart has nothing better to do. There are faster an easier ways to slow down traffic on a trail. While such an effort?

I will have to go ride it and see how bad it is. Perhaps if the trail un-sanitizer is so determined that they keep at it, leaving the rocks alone and riding around them is the answer. Then again, maybe that will make them start really boobytrapping the trail. We don't know how stubborn and angry this person is.

I'm not — and maybe a few others as well — familiar with any of these names... Bambi... Firehouse... CC Metro... DiscGo DiscGo (I kind of have an idea of the loop this entails)... Phoenix... 45...

If you can't bring me up to speed in the thread, please PM me.

    Thanks.

How did you discover it was the people from the apartment complex? Anyone think of putting up game cameras to find out who it is? My guess is it is the same person over and over again.
Ask me what TGR can do for you.

It might be necessary to set up a game camera before this happens.

Isn't there a kids fort area in the trees there?

Nope, not at all. 'Tis why I chill around the blind turns and keep the pace down as it's not just a mtb trail.

There is time to go full ham when its 29 degrees and no one is willing to go on that trail. Are the rocks actually a problem?

Yeps, saw it take place in the early AM one morning. There were a few ladies walking the trail looking for rocks to place in the middle of the trail. We had a very polite conversation exchanging ideas. They mentioned there were others who did this as well and I mentioned they were all creating a hazard for trail runners and cyclists. They thanked me for my insight as they continued to place rocks on the trail... and they laughed when I told them I was going to remove them on my way back, which I did. The next morning there were even more rocks… that I also removed.

Tell them you know who they are and now you know who to sue when your kid falls on one of these rocks.

Did you ask them their motive? I understand why they hate mountain bikers, everyone does it seems. But trail runners? There goes the blind corner theory.

Of all the trail users, I would expect mountain bikers and trail runners to be the ones least impacted by rocks on the trail. I mean...they're rocks and it's not like we don't ride over a million every ride. If they were placing logs across the trail or barbed wire strung between trees, it's another story.

Cha. I confess I ride Bambi as fast as my lil' legs and hummingbird heart will allow. Not 19.4MPH fast (ah, snap) but I push it (and check my corners). And Mr. "blur" in your handle weren't you leading the fast group on Tues? We all tend to go fast sometimes. People do take notice. But sabotage is not cool. I guess if I snap my femur on one of those rocks then that will slow me down and that someone who placed that rocks "won" somehow? Again, not cool.

Also, I've not once endangered or even buzzed another on that segment. I did once shout at a pokimon guy with his headphones on but he couldn't hear me so I feel justified. Can't we all just get along?

Couple of my standard suggestions but, ring your bell when coming around a blind corner and maybe we should put up a sign saying "slow, blind corner, other trail users may be present".

I think those folks that intentionally disrupt the trails do it because they enjoy the trails on their terms. . MTBs perceived to be going fast and hollering warnings and ringing bells kind of fucks up that vibe. I get that, but likely none of them have eve ridden an MTB - and been in a zone. What do you do? Just try to make it work for everybody.

The very strange thing about this is that the rocks are appearing on the upper portion of the trail, closer to Slaughter. No blind corners there, no apartments to hear anything. Very perplexing. I almost want to put a piece of paper in a plastic sleeve on a stick addressed to "The rock placers" to ask "why?"

And...what a great ride tonight. Lurking on everyone's Strava I see LOTS of personal bests. Amazing conditions.

Took a night ride this evening and the cool air delivered the perfect solution to this problem. If you see these ladies putting rocks on the trail again, stop your bike and start helping them. When they ask you can say "...bikers love the rocks. What we really hate is knee high berms on all the corners. That really slows us down." Just like that, you've created a new trail building crew!
