So that area south of William Cannon, behind (east of) Exmoor Pet Car Service is not part of Stephenson Preserve?

I'm confused, because when my wife and I walked there one afternoon we had to cross over the black material that bordered what seem to be a road that is being built, as the excavating went further to the east in a manner that looked like it would be a road/driveway.

I know there's the Zion Baptist Church on a piece of that land I'm referring to, but I was under the impression that between that and the Lost Valley road/development was a part of the preserve.

nope, it's not part of the Preserve, which is why they are allowing it to be disturbed. pretty simple.

on that note, i passed that area the other day. when I approached the silt fence, i dismounted and lifted my bike over it so as to not trample it. some workers were nearby and saw me and didn't seem to care. from the look of that silt fence, the riders have been trampling it frequently. that fence is there for a reason, so please don't ride over it.

Yes, mack_turtle... We shouldn't ride over fences.

And I understand the simpicity of what you're saying... But I also know that variances (or whatever the proper name) can be used to change designations.

I guess what I'm really after is for someone to tell me if that property is private or a part of the greenbelt, just not a part of the preserve.

I also guess I should have been more clear about that.

The existing trail that follows the creek bed is on city property. That piece of city property is not in the designated Stephenson Preserve. That trail is legal for us to be on. If you head east up the hill, that is Stephenson Preserve. It is legal for us to be on those trails too, just not riding a bike.

North of William Cannon, after you pass under Bum Bridge, you are now on the car wash's property for a short bit. They have an L shaped lot that includes the creek bed. When you continue north and enter the woods you are now on the City of Sunset Valley's property.

The excavation that we are talking about that is currently crossing the trail is on city property but being done for the private development up the hill. The parcel that is being developed is just west of the church's property.

Thank you Tip... Being familiar with the development that's going on further east and a bit south — opposite Zion church, I was thinking that some other development must be happening. I just didn't know how they accessed the land... Now I know City of Austin gave it to them from their non-preserve land holdings.

I rode down Bambi today and laughed out loud. The malicious rock placers must be running out of rocks to place. Now they are using sticks instead. There were about 10 sticks, varying in diameter, laid across the trail at perfect 90 degree angles. I rode over all of them except one that was on a curve that I stopped to move.

So terribly interesting these people. Are they laughing as they do these things, or are they muttering to themselves, "frigging mountain bikers. friggin' trail runners."

Probably the latter- Some angry, disgruntled retiree? Not much unlike yourself, except YOU use your power for good, whereas they have obviously turned to evil.

Perhaps you could reason with them, Tip, and convince them to help you build trails elsewhere to draw the mountain bikers away to better trail.

I find it interesting that they spend their peaceful walking time carefully placing sticks on a trail to interfere with someone else's peaceful riding/running time. There is a case study here dying for some attention....or maybe just some odd cat ladies who actually get out of the house.

You should carefully move the sticks off the trail, keeping them in the same arrangement you found, only five feet to one side.

Or rearrange them to spell a kind message.

I rode it last night and it was clear. So it would have to have been done this am or The Tip did it to stir up sh&t between the communities. I vote the latter as it would be more exciting.

That Tip is such a trouble maker. You know he is always looking for things to do. Even building and maintaining trail isn't enough to keep him busy.

    Thanks Tip! Keep it up!

I moved some sticks and rocks yesterday around noon. It was mostly inconsequential, but there was one bowling ball sized rock right in the good line on one of the rockstacles that if you weren't on your game coulda been bad news.

I wonder if these rock placers have herd of that women that got prison time for booby traping the trails.

I was at speed, but that rocky chute you go through with an immediate left turn afterwards, had been altered somehow. Yes, maybe the big rock had been dug up and moved.

Yes, maybe putting a copy of this article in a plastic sleeve would do some good.

I'd be interesting to see what protection we have under the law. I'm not one to call the cops for any little reason, but it is nice to have the information to say "you're in the wrong, and here's why."

"Once in custody, Kraal was charged with setting or placing a trap with intent, mischief to obstruct the enjoyment of property and mischief in endangering life."

"it was agreed that she would enter a guilty plea to mischief rendering property dangerous, useless or inoperative."

It would be very appropriate to tell these women if seen, "What you are doing is illegal. People have gone to jail for this." I will take their picture. "I will share this picture with the police."

There is the slight problem though. The upper part of Bambi is on Walmart land. The Walmart land is not posted though, so that's good. It would be better to capture their image on the city park side of it. The property line is about at the rock chute part. The short piece after that, before you turn right, is more or less the property line.
