My verdict is in... I'm thinking Mary Searight Park has the best potential for a long, flowy singletrack trail in an Austin park. Don't know how, as it didn't feel like it, but my wife's Map My Ride app said we did just over 7 miles yesterday afternoon — only doubling up on maybe three short sections... And looking around, there seems to be plenty of space for another seven miles (if that's really what we did) of the same type of trail. Is it possible? Might be a wonderful alternative to the now overused Walnut Creek Park.

Just a heads up... Up near the property line of a development to the south-east, a wide trail has been cut with some sort of compact tractor, and the area has been clear cut of bush. Not sure what's going on.

I’d like to see this happen but outside of the central portion of the park due to dog walkers and jogger traffic. I really enjoy blasting down “Carve those Esses” but often have to yield to foot traffic. Someone has been cutting new trails and they’re welcomed. I’d like to see some more berm work under the southern most 1st Street bridge.

Can the viewers of this thread do their part to reduce the number of repetitive Strava segments? Especially egregious are the ones that cross a freaking highway with a traffic light.

Trail segments should not involve riding across a highway no matter how deep your strava game runs.

This. And please consider the definition of a "segment." If there exists multiple forks with multiple different potential combinations, don't throw this into the mess you are calling a segment. It makes for a confusing mess that only you will get the KOM on...unless that's your plan.

I know this discussion is just pissin' in the wind, but yes, why all the multiple segments for basically the same route? I don't get it. And a comment has been made before about having the name at least infer something about the trail. Either the location, or direction, or feature, or something other than just a random name. And sometimes a dumb name on top of it.

sigh. First world problems, sure, but we are discussing it, so, why not?

Just a heads up, segments can easily be deleted by the creator. hint hint

    Sure, I'll start.

"Toe Jam." It's a good segment to create, terrible name. So not to delete, just change the name.

To delete: all the segments that duplicate "Slalom". This is where the "why a new name for an already named segment" thing first came to light with me.

All of westbound 45 coupled with Firehouse. I am using the "hide" feature so I don't have to look at it. Which of course is the "no-bitchin' about all this" way to handle this stuff.

I thought of another one. "Davis Landslide" "The Colberg" and "The Dirty Stephen Colbert" are all the same segment. Okay, one turns towards Slaughter, but still, what's the point?

The Colberg is older than the other two but not really accurate any longer, right?

Why not accurate? Because it turns and does not use Tiger Zig (up)?

I looked again. Davis Landslide and The Dirty Stephen Colbert are exactly the same. Same amount of riders, everything. There needs to be one of them because not everyone turns towards Slaughter at the bottom of the hill. I personally like Davis Landslide better.

"Don't be a Stickhead" is exactly "Median Well westbound"

    "Limp Biscuit" is "Firehouse"

Is the issue that the segments clutter the list or is there another reason multiples are aggravating?

Clutters the list, yes. Also Strava randomly picks which name to list sometimes. And it also causes confusion when discussing where rides are going to go. Although we mostly all know what the "real" names are, it can be confusing, especially with new folks.

What we need are signs at the entrance to every trail with the official name. Like in Baurele Ranch.

there is an awesome system i road in north park in pittsburgh. its a color trail blaze system that is spray painted on trees (relax, they are just small marks). with the map, it was a great way to discover the system. follow the markings and you are on trail. i planned rides with this map - http://www.pittecp.org/sites/default...s/npblazed.pdf

    orange trail was fast.

Speaking of Firehouse, it's the same trail as Stay off the highway.
