That's not me in the picture, just one I found of the section. It looks like it was taken a few years ago, the terrain has changed somewhat.

The trail behind Gorzycki Middle School is closed from the bottom of the hill to 1826. The Dirt Colberg part from Davis to the top of the hill and from top to the Middle School driveway is rideable, just don't go down the hill toward 1826.

An apartment complex is being built next to the school. Hopefully that little greenbelt will open back up eventually.

A good citizen has done some weed eating down Meridian way. Very nice. We'll see it at Crank and Drank tonight.

When I weed eat I always "polish" the trail tread as the last thing to clear the cuttings away so I can see the dirt.

Hey Tip... What happened around the area of the rock feature I brought up long ago? I was out riding with my wife last evening on the soccer field trail section and saw that the area by the rock feature has been somewhat clear cut. Looks like the owner of a house did it because it's the width of their property line. It extends all the way down to what I think is a disc golf fairway. Also, there's a type of gravel path that runs from a back gate of the property, and a part of the trail is lined with a rock edge.

On another note... Met three fellas that were riding the trails for the first time. One just moved into a house in the Beckett/Davis area. They asked about C&D so you might see some new faces.

We ALWAYS see new faces! And it's a good thing.

Yes, I saw all the clearing of underbrush on Disc Go Disc Go around that area. I would guess that the city did it at the homeowner's request? The work done is on city property for sure. Maybe the city will continue that work all up and down there. I hope not for the aesthetics factor, but I can see why they would, with all the wildfire danger these days.

I have no idea who did the nice trail lining rock work. Perhaps a homeowner to make sure no riders stray into their backyard. Or maybe a kid.

That was way more than clearing underbrush... Trees cut down... Big branches cut off... It's as if the home owners wanted to have their backyard view extended.

But shoot... we should say "Thanks!" and go build extended trail all through this now cleaned out area... I'm thinking it could add another 100 yards to the current section... Up and downhill too.

I don't for certain it was them, but Austin Fire Dept was planning to do some brush clearing for a fire break near the houses. This sounds like it fits.

The Hill Country Conservancy people that are building the bridges over Boulder Crossing have said that they are getting grief from some passing mountain bikers about ruining the trail. This is so wrong! They certainly are not the enemy. It needs to be said again, The Violet Crown Trail is not a bad thing for we mountain bikers. Yes, some of our nice single track will be absorbed. But it will open up so much more single track that it is more than worth it.

The pictures show the re-route to a new border crossing. It is as challenging as the one that they are covering up with a bridge. It's only 100 yards to the east of the existing passage. The detour is marked with pink tape. You should go out and try it! And remember, that any single track that turns into 12 foot gravel path, will be replaced (most likely)by new fun single track close by.

How could anyone give this hard working group of fellows a hard time? They are our buddies!

I have not given anyone grief for working there, but it pisses me off that they actively ignored the wishes of trail users by putting the bridge in that exact spot instead of ten feet over where there is not an interesting trail feature. let's just pave the whole trial system if we're going to start wussifying everything. I spoke to some of them in person, while out on a trail run one morning. zero fucks were given to my concerns.

You can easily see how it would not be that easy to move the entire trail over any. They would have had to cut a lot of big trees down to do so. We mountain bikers definitely play second fiddle to environmental changes. And that crossing has already been wussified to not even being much of a challenge anymore.

    Be positive Mr Turtle!

my heart once nourished by hope and compassion? words cannot express my disappointment.

Just to show what a curmudgeon I am, I rode through Bambi the other day and put all the trail ricks back where they belong- on the trail. Bah humbug!

Also, everything I rode there around the Veloway was good to go. Nothing even sticky.

Close your eyes and see if you can recall a time when there was two or three trails in all of the SATN. Look where we are now, don't cause grief for those on the same team.

    Remember everything is temporary.

So eventually we'll have a brand new Dick to Beetus?

Ha! That's why I said "most likely" as the modifier to the original statement. But Dick to Beetus is a good example of a flat nothing-to-it trail being replaced with a wider nothing-to-it trail.

PSA for fellow SATN riders, I was riding Disc Go last week and some loving person left a used syringe on the side of the trail. I disposed of it, but wanted to make everyone aware.

Big doings at tonight's Crank and Drank (6pm, ATX Bikes)

We will be Grilling for Charity. Okay, that's not true, it's two different things!
We will have our 2nd Annual Boot Pass for Charity. Please bring some cash to donate to the east Austin Camacho school that is trying to have a viable MTB team. They sure need it.

Then plan on staying around post-ride for some meat and socializing.
