Its all good, I rode it twice and went north and west for the first time using "feel" and later MTB project once I got between Davis and Escarpment. We cleared that big oak limb as best as possible with no tools.

Second day I was alone so I lit up chip chop on my 26. Looking forward to attempting on my 29er to see which is faster/more fun.

I rode a little tester ride this afternoon. I have been out of town for a few days. I did not know that Austin got as much rain as it did.

But the Circle C Metro trails could be ridden. I was leaving tire marks, but not sinking in. It was slick on the corners.

I saw a frickin' motorcycle rider on the single track on the south side of the creek. Then I came across him as he came down the jeep track on the north side. I yelled "HEY!" at him. He looked at me and accelerated away. First it's crazy horse ladies and now motorcycles! Grrrrr. He had a red helmet on.

The wife wanted to ride to take advantage of the beautiful weather. I went with her.

Let me tell you, the Costco trail is hero dirt. We tore that bitch up.

But seriously, I think the real trails might be gtg on Saturday. Looks like no more rain either.

Looking for SATN Ride Leaders, Jan 30th 3-5

Sat Jan 30th, 3-5 we're looking for some SATN ride leader/leaders to run a group ride as a precursor to the
Bowie Mountain Biking Team's Texas State High School Mountain Bike Championship Series Kickoff Party, being held at ATX Bikes. The idea is to host an "adult" group ride to benefit the Bowie HS MTB team - Depart ATX Bikes at 3:00 PM and return at 5:00 PM. Showcase all the great SW ATX trails. These are 2 separate events and Bowie has their own practice then so we'll need someone else to host the 3-5 ride. Takers pls PM me.

Then at 6pm, a kickoff party / pep-rally to help support the southie kids before their first race: Bowie Mountain Biking Team's Texas State High School Mountain Bike Championship Series Kickoff Party. All are welcome.

PM Sent cramsay. Sounds very fun.

On the ride leader theme, The ARR Austin Mountain Bikers Meetup Group had so much fun on their last ride on the SATN they have scheduled another one for January 23rd. Dick Nichols, 9 am. I know for a fact they need ride leaders to show them around. Sign up or just show up.

You are in a similar location to me (William Cannon and 1st) Looking at a map you closest access from what I can tell will be the same as mine. Straight down William Cannon and hop on a little past Westgate into Longview Park. You might be able to find an entrance at the end of Stassney just past West Gate as well. This is your friend Strava Global Heatmap.

any chance there is singletrack worth following along the RR tracks that parallel Manchaca? that could get you to the far east end of Bauerle Ranch stuff.

or just follow Stassney all the way to Sunset Valley and find a way in there. there's a bridge over the creek on West Gate just north of Stassney, might be a way to drop in at that bridge. Just don't let the locals see you entering South Hills.

Even though you can see Williamson Creek from that bridge on Westgate, there is no way to get to the SATN from there. From the end of Stassney you would have to go up to Jones Rd and over, then down to the end of Lone Oak. There is a trail head there.
Or, from the end of Stassney, go south on Westgate, pass the bowling alley and turn up Alderwood.

Went for a nice long ride this afternoon. Everything is perfect. When I took a shower afterwards I was not mud splattered OR covered with that coating of dust covered sweat that sticks to your leg when it's dry. Just perfect conditions.

Part of the ride was in Bauerle Ranch. I don't ride there much because I don't like crossing Brodie to get there. But it's a nice little trail. And I forget to mention it when people say there is no climbing in the SATN. I usually only think to mention the Davis Lane climb. But Bauerle has a bit too.

Hero dirt yesterday. Love these trails... I took a wrong turn and learned the "newer" trail between escarpment and mopac on the north shore. That thing needs some more riding but will be nice.

    Slalom.
It's getting faster almost daily from it getting worked in. It works great going either way.
    Lots of fun.

Geez, did enough people get out the last couple of days? Fantastic amount of activity out there. So cool.

I rode around there today. Actually, the quickest way to get on dirt from heading west on Jones Rd, is to skip Lone Oak, and instead turn left into the city hall parking lot that is just past Lone Oak. Trail head there too.

I found some new trail today. Really, I found it. I appreciate the new stuff. Good use of a non-controversial area.
BUT, I sure wish that everyone that ever wanted to build trail would read up on trail building before they head out there with a saw or a shovel. Just search "IMBA trail building." A wealth of knowledge will pop up.

In this instance I am referring to the cutting of branches to clear the trail corridor. Some of this trail looked like a horror movie with scary spikes lining a three foot wide space designed for your head to pass by. The "approved" way is to cut the branch at the tree trunk, not "just what you need." This is not only safer but has the added advantage of making it look like the new trail is natural and has always been there.

    Great day for riding.

Can be done on a CX bike no problem. There are definitely some sections and areas that are heinous on but there are ways to make it through if you know how to avoid those areas, or shoulder the bike and run through.

I usually ride my CX bike on these trails. I did put a flat bar on my cx bike but I rode it with drops before the flat bar.
