I am laughing about the male and female names. I laughed harder when I imagined a housing subdivision choosing a "theme" like some of the ones in south Austin do. But instead of Gettysburg Dr/Ft Sumter Rd/Seminary Ridge Dr, or Great Britain Blvd/Wessex Way/Palace Pkwy, or Texas Oaks Dr/Jesse James Dr/Bill Hickok Pass, it would be Pink Oboe Pkwy/Beef Whistle Way/Spit Lizard Lane

So that bit of trail does have some social value to some folks. Interesting and eye opening.

    Landmarks? Yes.

The Log. The (broken)Picnic table. The radio tower (south veloway). Escarpment spillway. Mopac sidewalk. Bowie sidewalk. Whirlpool Cave. The Hump. Gravel crossing. Boulder crossing. The rusted truck. The Cliff. Bunny Hill. Not Bunny Hill. The Muddy bridge. Wolftrap circle. Everwet. Indian Grass Prairie Preserve. VCT trailhead by Specs. Jehovah’s Witness Hall. Railroad Tracks. I-35. The drugstore (Walgreens on Slaughter). Backspin Bar. Medical office building (on Davis). The middle school (Gorzycki). The carwash. Bum bridge. Church with the big red cross (Jubilee). Longview Park. Rock Maze.

    Trail and area names? Sure.
Mopac, Whirlpool, Candy, Davis Climb, Drip Drop, Claremont, Barstow and Squirrel Hollow(not trails, but important connectors), Circle C soccer, Circle C Metro, North Veloway, South Veloway, Williamson Creek Greenbelt, Latta Greenbelt, Violet Crown Trail (various parts), Valero Loop, Bowie Jeeptrack, Bowie Gnarl, Bauerle (with it’s Coyote Run, Slaughter Creek, and Bauerle Creek signed trails), 1826, Slaughter Creek (management unit) Trail, Mary Moore Searight, Sunset Valley (Nature area, not Conservation area), Dick Nichols

If someone is familiar with all of these, I can navigate them around the SATN on my phone.

What about Grandma's Tit, Bone Wipe and Aunt Fannie's Crack? You're missing out if you need signs or a phone to get around.

We had a great ride for Tuesday's Crank and Drank.

I'll tell you where we went. We started off on Poontang, then we turned onto Shagging, made our way down Rubbing Uglies, had a mechanical on Boning, and finished up on Hay Roller. I had never done all of that in one night.

But seriously, it was a great ride.

I'll be out there Saturday and Sunday. No set plan as of right now but when I ride alone I usually start at 12 or 1.

Latta Greenbelt, coming away from Dick Nichols. Turn left at the log to head towards the broken picnic table. There is that short little hill that you ride down into a mess of roots. At the bottom of that hill is a crooked tree trunk that is just at head height. You ride to the right of that. Know where I am referring to?

So my point is; I keep putting rocks and brush underneath that overhanging hazard as a safety measure. The trail there requires a lot of attention to navigate. People's eyes are focused down and that branch can be a big surprise if you are too far left. The ground blocking things directs you right of the hazard. I have seen someone hit their head there before. That is why I know this is a real concern.

But someone keeps removing the warning things underneath that branch. I wonder why.

That was tried once. Not by me. Wrapped with high visibility tape. That was done at the moment the guy got his bell rung so hard on that group ride. It was removed by someone within a week.
It's not like the trail is getting sanitized. It bugs me because it's dangerous, but also bugs me because I can't figure out the motive of undoing the safety moves.

TV story about "new" trail that goes down into the BCGB from the end of Westgate. Someone just mentioned this trail here at Mojo, but I couldn't find the thread.

    "Still several years away."
"We need $150,000 to do it."
"Right now no one is allowed on the property."

good thing there's not a bright green heatmap line at the end of Westgate where dastardly trespassing might be going on!

    Wrong thread, Southie!

That trail would be a long and fairly boring hike in and out for walkers. Great for trail runners. Legal access for mountain bikers is always good, because that trail doesn't really offer much except a more reasonable climb out than the street climb by toys r us or death defying stunts on the 360 shoulder. There is not much sanitation that could be done on that trail that wouldn't be an improvement.

Maybe it's called a heat map because, if noticed, it will bring the heat to whatever trail you shouldn't be riding on.

true, I kinda wish that thing didn't exist. the cat's out of the bag now though. it's not like Strava is a big secret and there's no way to keep stupid people from breaking the first rule by talking about the elephant in the room. I am out of animal idioms for now.

Seems like they're dogging you for being a bird brain. I'd be lion if I didn't admit I made this post just to have some pun.
