The forecast says it will be 48 degrees Tuesday at 6 pm. Is that too cold for a Crank and Drank or are you going to be there? Of course 48 at night seems colder than 48 in the day. What is your threshold temperature for riding?
The trails are just about perfect.
What do you think?
There's a way to ride Buerle on trails all the way to behind the Tire Rack on Slaughter. Then you have to ride Slaughter to Mary Moore. I've spent a good amount of time trying to find a path that would connect to Mary Moore without having me ride to Slaughter but the fence line along the railroad tracks is littered with no trespassing signs.

I road Bauerle to Bowie/Circle C then up to Nichols. Everything was rideable, rocks were slightly slippy in places but dirt was primo. I expect today should be even better.
Yes, the no trespassing signs are daunting for sure. But you don't have to ever get up on Slaughter to do it legally. Cross the railroad tracks underneath Slaughter. Find your way to Bilbrook. Cut through the Catholic church's parking lot. It's not Posted so it's legal. Cross David Moore Dr and you are single track on school property, not posted either, that takes you right into Mary Moore.
And I have said it before and I'll say it again. There is LOTS of fun stuff in Mary Moore Searight. It would be worth driving your car over there and having a MMS session if you don't have time to find your way from the Canterbury Loop. Lots of exploring, lots of really beautiful scenery, and a good amount of techy, fast, flowy stuff too. It's a very under used mountain biking destination.
Just got back from a 3 hour ride and had to wash a bunch of shit off my bike...The trails were totally fine, but I rode through a big pile of dog shit that was directly in the middle of the trail and flung it all over my bike and legs. I had to fight the urge of beat the bananas out of the next person I saw with a dog.
It did start sprinkling on my was back and the trails got super greasy. I wound up cutting out the last couples miles of trail cause it was so slick and I was getting a little loose.
- "Go over the rock, go around the rock. Don't MOVE the rock!"
- "Because trees don't travel 75 miles per hour."
- "Enjoying nature...at a higher rate of speed."
Trails are fine.
Crank and Drank is on.
Lights, Action, Beer!
Wunderground forecasts it to be 63 degrees at 6 pm tonight. Dropping to 56 by 8 pm. Perfect.
Wind and sunshine will have done plenty to make the trails that perfect grippy tacky goodness.
Crank and Drank, ATX Bikes at 6. There are plans to see some BRAND NEW STUFF.
The new stuff that we can talk about is in the Hielscher Tract Greenbelt that runs from the Circle C community center at Spruce Canyon and LaCrosse, east to a bridge that runs under LaCrosse. There's more there now than just the straight single track that runs along the back of the houses. Newish fun stuff.
Indeed. Rode all that the other day but got lost when I rode north of LaCrosse.
6 pm ATX Bike's back door.
We try to break into groups by ability but it doesn't always happen at the start of the ride. Usually it just naturally evolves. But if it's a large group, like it most likely will be tonight, because gawd dang the weather and dirt are perfect so come on already, then we really try to break it up at the start.
Time of ride can be anywhere from just over an hour to 2 1/2 hours. Just depends what group you are in. The Strava times range from 7.5 mph average for the "slow group" to 10 for the "fast" group.
You really should have two lights. Most folks have one on the helmet, one on the handle bars. Some people have more than two. cough cough (shut up everybody! lol)
Everyone is welcome. You'll fit in. Bring a cooler with a beverage for post ride dranking. If you ride your bike over so you can't carry a cooler, don't worry, you can throw your beer into someone else's cooler.
What time is C&D usually over? My work schedule precludes cranking, but I might show up for dranking.
