    South Austin Trail Network

It would be neat to ride behind it in the tunnels under MoPac then once you're out of the tunnel it flies up and pans out as you ride under it and up one of the berms

I think the answer to this question is always obvious. The question that needs to be asked is "Is anyone ABLE to go for a ride today?"
I hope you were able to get out and did.

I'm ready for Thursday. Just got a dropper post installed today. Let me at it!!

Used it for this on my ride today. It works great. The smaller saws work too, but the Bigboy is, well, BIG, so it works even better.

I rode the bypass of Whirlpool today. The cavers were out building brush barriers on the trails that lead to the cave opening. I talked with them. They said that bikers are still riding past the cave. I said that I would post where I could to continue the education campaign.
I know most people won't admonish other people, but please make an exception about this. If you see someone riding the "wrong" way through the Whirlpool Cave land, tell them about the bypass routes. I am just sure that it is due to being uninformed as the bypasses are more fun and of course solves the problem. Tell them that we are able to use the cavers land because of their good graces.

I always felt I had a lot in common w spelunkers (except crawling in a hole). Too bad they don't get that we come in peace.

Not at all. They are not the bad guys here. They have been very accommodating toward the mountain biking community.

What's going on with the cavers? New guy - educate me!

Those silky saws are nice! The entire grounds crew at my work uses them heavily, and they hold up well.

go read this- South Austin Trail Network

basically, there is a triangle of trails that veer around the cave entrance. use those, don't ride past the cave. there's nothing interesting on that trail anyway, other than the cave entrance. unless you plan to break into the cave and ride your bike in there (which is silly), there is no reason to use that center trail. the other three trails that go around it are more intersting.

curious about any ongoing cave entrance issues- are "mountain bikers" riding on that trail, or are regular schmoes who are using it as a shortcut to a bus stop riding through there? I rode up to the cave entrance the other day because I wanted to see the new gate they built over it. no one was there using the cave, so I hope I was not causing more trouble.

We tried to block the Whirlpool trails too. But I believe some of the nearby neighbors that walk that trail unblocked it. Then the uninformed bikers come along and ride the old trail.

So basically, when we find a legit trail, neighbors block it because it's "private property," even though it's not. then we try to block illegitimate trails for the benefit of land managers and owners, and the neighbors unblock those because it's "public property," when it's not.

Yeah, unfortunately the term "neighbor" does not always imply "neighborLY".

That is a good description. People do what they want to do and assume it is OK with everybody else. Then they get indignant when they are told what they assumed was wrong.

I'd like to openly apologize to the family I rode through the middle of in Circle C but in my defense y'all didn't seem to notice my bell, and the guy exhaling big clouds of vape the the wind was blowing back in my face didn't give me much motivation to hang back.

Also a sorry to the guys with Jones bars for making that second pass a little close, I was in a zone and you seemed pretty comfortable in our first encounter.

Anyway, the weather is beautiful and the trails are in great shape, and now there is a little less veg on Valero and one less major face slapper over by the tracks. Go ride!

Not familiar with South Hills. Where is that?

Edit: NVM, I googled it. I knew not to be there.
