The trails were dry enough this evening that I was able to ride down to the creek and see how the bridge looks. The end is still hanging 20 feet and the air and it looks like a lot of work is still left. :/ Name: IMG_2443-small.jpg

Yeah I was at the top end a week ago and it looks like they're spending alot of time building a long, wide switchback trail from the bike bridge up to street level before dropping in the final span and getting the bitch DONE. Boo.

I peek at it a couple times a week on my way home and work seems to have screeched to a halt lately.

Here's a crappy cameraphone picture from last week, standing at the top of a ~10 foot drop from the end of a construction road from the Gaines Ranch parking lot:

Went by the same spot on the south end this morning and couldn't get close enough for a picture since it's an active work site. Seems like they're leaving that gap in the last bit of the bridge open while they do more work on the approach trail and retaining walls. They are also doing more work on the bridge itself... no longer just empty support beams and there's a bunch of equipment around. So progress, but not looking like it'll be done before ACL fest.

I bet they don't want people screwing around trying to use it as soon as the beams are in and if we're lucky they're going to drop in a prefab section that's all done at the last minute. But they sure are taking their sweetazz time getting to it. At this point I'm wishing it was a tolled bridge so they'd hurry up and finish.

I was there yesterday. Work is progressing again. They are forming the landing for the south end of the bridge. It looks like they are getting close to placing the last bridge beams. It will take a while to finish the tread, railings, etc. But at least progress is happening again.

We need one of those bus bridges in the greenbelt. Might not last very long, but hey...

Mopac is scheduled to be closed 9/25 from 10pm-5am.
I am assuming to set the last beams.

Or it could be for the stupid ass traffic creating curve at the Enfield exit. I hope it is is for this because Austin drivers are retarded and do not know how to maintain speed around curves, or merge lanes, or rain.

Yeah, for some reason most people can manage to change lanes at 60 MPH, but if the road shifts by the same amount, they slow to 30.... "ADVISORY SPEED 50 MPH" people... get with the program! I saw a subie blast through there early on a Saturday morning at about 90 last month... warmed my heart

But anyway.. I hope the closure is for setting the last bridge segment.

The speed limit on the north end of MOPAC is clearly marked 55 mph in the construction zone, but everyone seems to do 35 or 85.
