So me and Toninater want to know if it's the guy from the video. Unsub? You had the thefts mapped right? Where was the vid shot? Which theft was the one that caught the video? Did he confess to this one?
Thanks in advance if you can solve this.

Unconfirmed - but I heard connections thru Strava and bike club forums such as this one.

There was a description of him somewhere that sounded spot on. Also, this name sounds real familiar to me - Juan Carlos Munoz

    1. Ive seen shows on how easy it is to break into a garage using a drill and reacher to unlock the manual latch. Perhaps a colution could be some type of electronic dead bolt for the door. If I had a garage, I would most likely have everything locked up in the garage or some other type of mechanism.

    2. If the thief worked at a pizza place, It would not be hard for him to observe high end bike racks on the back of cars, stickers, etc while delivering pizzas to houses in the neighborhood. despite the fact that I saw a huffy on a Kuat rack this weekend, one would expect a $550 dollar rack his home to a more expensive bike.

I have a pair of I-bolts screwed into a stud in my garage with a Krytonite New York chain going through them and around both of my bikes. If I go out of town, I also lock the bikes together with a u-lock. I should look into finding a way to also lock the garage door itself, but at a certain point, a determined thief is going to get what they want. just make it very difficult and they will give up and find an easier target.

working a bike shop, I used to upsell locks by telling people that, if a really nice bike and a crappy bike are parked next to each other and a thief wants to take one, he is going to take the one with the flimsier lock, regardless of the quality of the target bike. that, or buy that sticker that Surly makes:

    ^ cool, but $250!!

A couple of zip ties around the garage release does the trick.

A car with a pizza sign on it, slowly cruising a neighborhood? The perfect cover - I doubt I'd give it a second thought.

As I mentioned in another post, we removed all bike identifying items: no bumper or other kind of stickers, no roof racks, and the Kuat is removed and goes back into the garage immediately after use. Sad state of affairs.
I am so glad this guy was caught. I hope he sings like a little canary, but still does some hard time. This is a hard-core thief who needs to be off the streets (and out of our houses and garages). The sad aspect of it all is that if he goes to prison, he'll just teach others his M.O.. It has been easy $$ for a few years now and if he'd been a little wiser, he'd be rich, or maybe he is wise and has it squirreled away somewhere, except he'll be paying a lawyer instead of taking that trip to Cozumel.

yeah, the fact that this guy got away with it for so long is proof of concept. so listen up if you're short on cash! if you want to make a quick buck, stealing bicycles is the way to go.

Love that kit! Lots of anguish in those eyes, though. Just looking at him is a great reason to live life on the up and up and not the down low.
