I have a small, cramped workshop and it was getting encroached by hanging lawn tools and other things. Cleaned it out this weekend so that I could actually do some work on the bikes. Felt a whole lot better once I had done that.

Even if ceiling hanging creates more space, it seems like more of a hassle than wall hanging.....

I would not want to be the first person to use those brakes after they had been hanging upside down for a week.

Who here has built their own garage/workshop as a stand-alone building in the backyard?

No workshop, but couches, sink, fridge, wifi, flatscreen TV and Sonos music.

Yes. Built it as a workshop and an office. We own a duplex in Houston and my wife worked from home. Before we had a garage built to replace our carport we needed someplace for tools and as a home office. It's sort of two room structure with a loft and a pocket door. Built for about $2500, including insulation, wiring, and a window unit. In Houston i built it to the code -1 sqft (149sf) at the time so it was just big enough to not have any permits or rules. It's been awesome. Don't need it in Austin, but sure do miss having a shop that is an actual different building.

My place has a criminally small garage so the study serves dual roles for bikeshop duties. Wife is not thrilled about this.

I KEEP trying to mount my chrome beach cruiser in the study just as a wall feature and backlight it. Wife still hasn't relented.

"work" would be stretching things a bit. My kids do homework on their computer and i do a lot less on mine. the wall mounted bikes make it feel like im in a perpetual state of freefall. .............DONT LOOK UP!!!

It was worse before with no room for desks

I just want to know how you get the bikes up there without scuffing the walls! Hell, I have scuff marks just bringing the bike from the garage thru the front door, let alone lifting them 5 ft in teh air!

unfortunately lots o scuffs. simple green and touch up when it happens. the hoist is the biggest PITA.

Hopefully buying something bigger this summer and can finally have a proper garage again
