    shimming a mtn stem

    Hi,

I would like to keep my existing mtn stem on my hardtail, but put a road bar on it. I'll need a shim.

    Doable, or bad idea?

    Soda-can shim?

I've had mtn bars that used shims by-design, can't imagine any reason why it would be a bad idea.

I thought road bars(26.0) were larger diameter than mountain(25.4). I have read that it is OK as long as the bars are steel or aluminum, but it would make me nervous.
