Race Face Prodigy ISIS Baddum Bracket

This keeps happening so I have to find out what's up. I've pulled the bottom bracket off my bike a few times in the past couple of months and I've noticed a couple of times that I can't spin the spindle. If I really twist it hard, it'll budge, but it feels grindy. Also, if it's on the bike and the cranks are on, it seems OK. That's likely because the cranks have more leverage and such. So this time, since I ain't gonna be using the thing for a while, I pulled the rubber seal and bearing retainer and lo and behold, lookie what I found:

Now that to me looks like rust. I cleaned that sumabich as well as I could, repacked it, and put it back together. I can't get to the other side bearing so it's going to have to live that way. Time for a new BB? Can I take this one apart and overhaul? Didn't seem like it was possible, but I'm not very familiar with this model. Ideas?

yeah. i might be upgrading that BB sometime early next year. it was on the ol slayer. since i'm using the other cranks, i have a UN-72 in there right now. just put on the bashgaurd and adjusted everything (what I should have done in the beginning ).

toonces, this is good ol fashioned seal failure and contamination.

    is this the stock BB?

this will happen on the lower tier BBs.

since there was a good ammount of contamination when you pulled it apart, it's safe to assume that you rode on it , in this condition, for while. so, the bearings are toast. this is a non serviceable BB. and LX level Race Face if you will.

chuck it and spring for a nice $80 Race Face.

since the contamination probably damaged the bearing surfaces, even a cleaning and regreasing can't repair damaged metal bits.
