    Shimano to Campy conversion cassette

Wheels makes an Accellerator 10 for like $150, and American Classic makes one for $89. Anybody done this before? Any experience with any brand?

I'm about to aquire a PowerTap wheel (got a steal on eBay) that only comes in shimano hub. I wanna use it on my Campy bike. Wheels' Accellerator and American Classic Conversion were mentioned on PowerTap's message board, but not with any guarantees of course.

I'm gonna order the American Classic if I don't hear any objections.

i've really only ever heard good things about American Classic.

i've opened them up and their hubs are really nice without costing an arm and a leg. sort of like shimno, sturdy without being too flashy.

I found a site http://www.bikeman.com that sells this American Classic C-10 conversion cassette for $75, when the direct price and everywhere else is $89. However, he's out of stock but should have it by Tuesday he says.

Also, I learned the Mavic M10 cassette can ONLY be used on Shimano or Mavic hubs. Furthermore it CANNOT convert a Shimano hub to Campy 10. That only works with the Mavic hubs because it has a spacer that you can remove to allow the extra space required to fit the 10 Campy gears on.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting my PowerTap wheel working. This should be interesting!

    Exclamation

Guess what. American Classic conversion cassette does not work on PowerTap hubs! A quick call to American Classic confirmed this, even though I've had several other people say that it should, but none of them actually tried it. Even a post by a PowerTap employee on their message board suggested trying it.

Now I have only ONE option. Wheels Manufacturing Everyone wants $150 for this thing. Incredibly expensive, but what can I do? I saw ONE on eBay, but that was a while back, and it still went for $100 used.

The 1st dude that answered phone at Am Classic didn't know, but he hollered to the backroom or something and someone in the shop or whatever confirmed it. So unless they do that, the sales people might tell you that it should.

Anyway, found a place that'll sell the Wheels one for $130, so not as bad.

Got the Wheels manuf. cassette on and it's working well. Not quite as smooth shifting as a Campy cassette, but not enough to make any material difference even in a racing situation, though I would only use it in low-priority races.

A guy at Cycle-Ops wound up selling me one for $45! (Usually go for $130)

See my review in "Electronics" for the Power Tap hub if your curious about what this gadget does. I'll be adding more comments over time as I play around with it's capabilities.
