how to choose a set of wheels

Iíve got a first-world problem: which wheels are best for me, Zipp 404 Firecrest Carbon Clinchers or 303s? Thanks to Murph, I came across a great deal on Zipp 303 wheels last week. Then yesterday I came across a better deal on 404s (same on-line retailer). Now Iím the proud owner of a set of 303s I donít need. Or is it the 404s I donít need?

The 303s are a tad wider and lighter. The 404s are more ďaeroĒ due to the wheels being deeper or taller (whichever term you prefer). I like lighter wheels. My limited research shows that wider wheels = lower rolling resistance from the tires = more speed > advantage to the 303s. But a deeper rim produces better aerodynamics (in many, not all situations) > advantage to the 404s.

Damn you, Physics, for making this confusing.

    Your comments?

BTW, I have until the wheels arrive in a few days to decide which Iíll keep and which go back. However, if youíre interested in a set of 303s or 404s at a real good price, let me know ASAP.

You seem like more of a 303 kind of guy...

Lighter, therefore spin up faster, yet still REALLY aero. Super versatile. Plus, if you get the 404's, you'll look like Victor...

i agree with flaco. lighter spins up faster and changes direction better. wider offers improved handling and comfort.

No one looks like me i have 303 in the front and 404 in the back. Also check for recall there are some Firecrest (like mine) that need to be sent back to replace the hub. Chain link has a post on facebook with details.

Victor, get ahold of Clay, he's keeping the 303's and selling the 404's for I think $1600, brand new, I'm not even sure he's received them in the mail yet
