The Team Hot Links Hill Country New Year’s Day Adventure Challenge and Membership Dri

The Team Hot Links Hill Country New Year’s Day Adventure Challenge and Membership Drive Extravaganza

    January 1st, 2004

The ride begins and ends in Boerne, Texas…Time and Location TBA

CAUTION: This ride is not for everyone!!!

    What the Hay!?
    (Obligatory FAQ section):

Say, that’s an ominous cautionary note, what gives? Good Question, this ride will tackle some of the most challenging, steep, difficult, and scenic routes in Kendall, Kerr, and Gillespie Counties. Not only that, it will be close to or over 100 miles in length. Add to that that the ride is unsupported except for the fact that 1) you will have a customized route map complete with profiles, dead cell phone areas, and suggested bail out points, and 2) you can bring a significant other with a cell phone (said S.O. may spend the day knocking around the hill country, cell phone in tow, waiting to extract you if the need arises, or just to haul your carcass home if you survive the ride).

Gee, that’s harsh. What kind of folks do you think might show up for such a ride? Probably not your average supported tour rider, but this route might appeal to those who like to begin the New Year with a good old fashioned dose of self-flagellation for all or selected unbridled indulgences heretofore.

This ride would be a good choice for those adventure racer types who thrive on saddle time in a varied and stimulating environment.

For the experienced roadie in need of biomechanical bonding time, this event is right up your alley.

Hey, I would fit nicely into one or more of those groups, but what’s in it for me? Another excellent question…in addition to the unappraisable satisfaction of completing or making an attempt to complete this event, you will receive the following:

-A 2004 Team Hot Links 5 Color Jersey (manufactured by Voler), a $70.00 value

-An annual membership in the Team Hot Links Cycling Club

-Other freebies from sponsors that will be worth up to $50.00

    -Door prizes

-A signed letter certifying the non-compensated portion of your entry fee as a tax-deductible charitable contribution to the Hill Country Cycling Foundation (a 504c3 organization)

-Many kind thanks for your help in funding the 2004 TMBRA and TXBRA racing exploits of the Team Hot Links Youth Mountain Bike Racing Team and the Hill Country Bicycle Works Junior Racing Team

Not a bad compensation package…what’s the catch? No doubt, the entry fee which will be $120 dollars…yes, this is steep like Skyline, but all proceeds will go to supporting the youth and junior cycling programs. Plus, you do get the very cool jersey, some very tasty food underwriting and the certification of your $50.00 charitable donation.

Hmmm…I am thinking about it. What if I decide to sign up? In the near future, on-line registration will be available at Active.com. Registration is limited to 150 registrations or to folks whose registration is received by 1 December, 2003.

In keeping with the nature of this event, it will be held in rain, sleet, snow, etc.

Oh yeah…specifics about the course will be revealed the day of the ride…general info including distance and elevation gain will be forthcoming

    Soon..

Consider this the unofficial announcement...working out some sponsorship details that should solidify by this time next week, at which point I will repost with the "offical announcement" and direct you to www.hillcountrycycling.org/the appropriate page for details.
