    Recommended trails

I am going to be in Houston for Thanksgiving and would like to do some mountain biking. I am originally from Houston and began mountain biking @ Memorial in the early nineties. I have not been back there since I moved to Austin about 12 years ago. Back when you used to be able to ride Ho Chi Minh, to part of the "Froot-Loop", to Cambodia, and the take Laos back to Ho Chi Minh. It used to be a lot of fun. I know most of the trails and I am wondering if it is still worth riding out there.

I have heard people talk about Cypresswood and just before I moved to Austin there was a small trail comming together that we called Cypresswood. I am wondering if it is the same trail. Not sure if it's something to be discussed on a public forum but if someone could pm me that would be cool.

Like I said, I have not mountain biked in Houston in over 11 years so any info would be helpful. Thanks.

Would be my suggestion.... South of Houston in Hitchcock near the dog track. That was my home trail before moving to the Austin area earlier this year. There is a section called the playground with some teeters and wood bridges, and some other really cool roller coaster type sections with short ups and downs. Be sure to make sure it hasn't rained for a while if you head that way. It stays wet for a while after a good storm.

Never been to Cypresswood. I have been to Memorial and the Ant Hills. JB is still my favorite.

The yahoo groups for cypresswood are

    cypresswoodtrailgroup
    cypresswoodimproper

There has been a lot of construction and clearing at cypresswood lately. Improper can add up to about a 9 or 10 mile loop. You can find directions and maps at the yahoo group sites.

Memorial Park is still a lot of fun.

I'm going to Austin to ride.

Thanks for the info. I think I will check out Ant Hills (because I have never been) and Memorial (for nostalgic reasons).

Anthills has been rained on so much this year, that it is in poor condition for the first few miles. That is if you dropin from the Wilcrest side. It is still fun just more rooty, or technical .
