Exclamation Great News!! Broken Oak Ranch...

    WBC,

Great news!! I spoke with Aubrey Stringer this evening and it appears all land access policies have been worked out between the partners!

The new partners have finished clear cutting and will not be using heavy machinery again. In addition, Aubrey has forfeited his deer hunting rights for full WBC access. As of January 2003, the trail system is now off-limits to horses and off-road (ATV type) vehicles. The new owners are eager to work with the WBC to finalize future trail policy and they have agreed to public access for 2003! The ranch will be open to the general public 1 weekend a month, February through September, closing for deer season October through January.

Aubrey will be responsible for liability insurance which he is currently seeking. In return, he will retain all land access fees for the series event and open weekends. His daughter and son-in-law will be operating the ranch on public weekends and currently have plans for a concession stand.

There are some NEW GUIDELINES for WBC members visiting the ranch:

    • PARKING: Parking is now limited to Aubrey’s side of the property (70 acres). When you enter the property please park to the left of the road. Basically, we’re asking you to park where you’ve always parked (at the campground). The red barn and everything to the right of the road below Stringer’s ridge (across from the campground) is a non-parking zone.
    • TRAILS: All trail work must be approved by the WBC. The partners are constructing a 2000 square foot replica of the house from the movie “Lonesome Dove.” This new construction necessitates that a section of trail be re-routed. In addition, “Gravity Cavity” needs to be completed in order to bypass “Easy Down.” With these two exceptions, all new trails will have to be pre-approved.
    • TRASH: In an attempt to be good trail stewards and maintain the property’s appearance, we ask that you pick up and carry out all trash. Although there are trash cans on site please don’t use them—these will be for public use during regular operating hours.
    • OPERATING HOURS: We now ask that all WBC visitors to the ranch check with the Broken Oak Committee chairman BEFORE going to the ranch. There will be posts to Bike Mojo and Electronic Bulletins notifying members of ranch events.

These are VERY exciting announcements. The Broken Oak Ranch project has had its ups and downs this past year and we can now, FINALLY, take a deep breath.

We have a great deal of work ahead of us. Our first Sunday back at the ranch will be on JANUARY 12th. We’ll be cutting and clearing trail—quitting at 2:00 PM to ride. I hope everyone can join us! I’ll see you there.

    Sincerely,

    Rob Leffel

    Question

By the first meeting back at the ranch being 1/12, the assumption is that we will NOT be riding there this weekend???

They had to re-schedule the family picnic because of inclimate weather last Sunday. They've trying again this Sunday.

    Cheers.
