    Sunday morning

Trails were still a little damp -- not muddy. Lots of DGRs. Should be excellent Monday night.

No rain this week, so the trails should be nice and dusty this weekend.

Watch for the giant tree down on the second switchback on Arroyo. If you're going down, it could be ugly. It will take a saw to move it.

Other than that, just loose dusty corners. It's hot and humid too.

The tree is gone, but the trails are the same.

about the same conditions here - hot, dry and dusty in the Grand Junction/Fruita area. The downhill trails on the Uncompaghre and monument are perfect.

    Gorgeous morning for a ride

The torrential August rains seemed to have roughened the trails up. Everything Loco and I rode today was in good shape.

Trails were in good shape this morning.

    Few closures:

Lover's Leap is closed to car traffic for the new fence along the cliffs. They have also fenced off the parking area by the ball fields to keep the extracurricular activity down, so there isn't any parking up there.

The river trail was blocked at twin bridges for construction at Lover's Leap, I assume.

They fenced off the wall area at Circle Point, but it doesn't really impact any trails.

They opened the parking area by the ball fields.

River trail still closed between Twin Bridges and Hale Bop.

More closures coming: They are going to block more of the River trail -- which will include at least the north side of twin bridges and maybe both sides(?) to do work at Emmon's cliff. It sounds like they be reopening the old picnic area up there. Construction estimate is 6 months, but we are heading into the rainy season.

    Openings

I heard a rumor last week that they finally reopened University-Parks Drive. It only took two and half years or so for them to fix the bridge.

    Closures:

I guess there is some type of collegiate mountain bike race on Saturday in the park.

    According to the flyer:

Saturday starts at 3pm and goes to 5pm.

Sunday's races start at 1pm and go to 5pm or so.

    Dry and Dusty

They had signs up saying that both sides of Twin Bridges were closed. I didn't ride down the River Trail, but I imagine it is closed now from Hale Bop to the Mouth of the Bosque.

Trails are really dry. Some rather large former embedded rocks are getting dislodged. We need some rain.

There were a bunch of logs and orange tape blocking some trails.

Fair is in town so I didn't do the usual Tuesday nighter.

    So my best guestimation is:

We got quite a downpour Monday night/Tuesday morning -- the yard is still muddy. I imagine all that loose rock and dirt got washed away and that there are some nice drain grooves. We usually get a few downed trees/branches after a good rain, and we had lots of wind yesterday. Doubt the rangers/trail crew has had time to check all the trails so be careful.

    Will be riding Thursday morning.

    Thursday morning

Me thinks the official rain total was off a bit. The brown trails(newer trails) are still pretty soft. Lots of DGRs. Lots of new drain troughs and debris at the bottom of the hills. Watch the backside of roots and rocks on the downs -- quite a few potential wheel grabbers. Didn't see any trees down.

Trails should be really nice by Saturday.

**They were doing construction at Circle Point today so watch for traffic even though the road is closed.

    Saturday AM

The trails were mostly dry/tacky. Cedars and MCC were a little soft.

    Closures:

River trail is closed from the Shyst climb to the Mouth of the Bosque -- AND -- from the Mouth of the Bosque to Halebop.

Both sides of Twin bridges are now closed.

Lover's Leap and Circle Point are still closed.
