Hah! Darius and I got some "skinnies" on our bikes and rode the Scenic Loop up to I10 and back today. Hit 28.7 through Grey Forest.

It was a good ride. Very little traffic on Scenic Loop Road, especially as you approach I-10. This was the first ride for me on slicks, and they made a HUGE difference. Now I want to get another set of wheels so I don't have to keep swapping tires.

Great turnout! 11 riders today. (did I mention that Scary forgot the stickers?) We had all kinds of new faces and we pointed them all toward the Mojo light. (did I mention that Scary forgot the stickers?) Allen/Admin need to show up on one of these rides. I feel like a Mojo field rep. out there. Might as well come out and feel the love. (did I mention that Scary forgot the stickers?)
With all the technical stuff I lead the group though guess where Scary manages to auger hisself into the ground at? (did I mention that Scary forgot the stickers?) That's right... the parking lot. Ouch.

    Thanks

My brother and I were the ones that came up looking for trail info and ended up tagging along for the ride. Just wanted to say thanks for showing us the park. Is that ride something that you do each weekend?

You guys also mentioned a place you ride at in Comfort. What is the name of that place and is there online info for it? Look forward to seeing you all again.

We had to bail cause i have a crappy rear shock and need to have it replaced. Whats a good shop in town that handles suspension?

You're welcome, glad to have new faces aboard. Yes, Every Wed. at 6 PM and Sun. at 9 AM, weather permitting. Sometimes we do a road ride with our Mtb. bikes if the trails are too wet.

Depends on the side of town you're on, but I recommend Helotes Bicycle 695-3159, ask for Hank and say the crazy bastard on the red enduro s-works sent ya. He'll do you right.

Yup, plenty of us. Normally I'd be cardio riding out there myself tomorrow but I'm doing the 211 loop road ride on my Mtn. Bike instead due to time limitations. (honey do list) I'm glad you had a good time. Remember that Wed nite at 6 PM we do the same, even through the dark months. Nothing like a fast paced ride through OP in the dark.

Otherwise, just do what you just did and post a "who's ridin where?" question right here on Mojo and you'll find all kinds of folks to ride with throughout the week all over SA.

Looks like I won't make the Saturday 211 ride, Trapper. Going to Austin. My neck's a little sore from this morning's fender-bender, but hopefully I'll be fine by Sunday for the MITG.

You gonna finish the 211 loop in less than an hour? You won't have me slowing you down this time. =)

Sunday Morning MITG at 9AM for those not trashed or hung-over from the 12 Hours of Mac. Maybe we'll go out the front gate this time? Or, maybe as part of the Bandera loop we'll do the powerline run and double back on that wide open doubletrack that will connect us back into the bandera loop.

I've tried to create a ride that allows for beginners to get some group ride time in to progress to the next level and still keep more advanced riders interested. It's been flowing pretty well so far. As you read the ride description you'll see there are several places for folks to bail out on when they feel that they've accomplished what they've wanted to do.

Those completing the whole route are in for a brutal ride. Figure on..... hmmm..... 22 miles or so with some bitchin' climbing going on. LOTS OF WATER and a GOOD BREAKFAST is necessary. Clif bars are highly recommended. For this route I expect to loose 8 lbs of water weight.

    Format would be:
    A. Perimeter Run warm up and return to parking lot (5.5 miles)
[ Beginner/low intermediate level - Tight twisting singletrack looping through the parks various wooded area providing ample canopy for this segment of the ride. Occasional tight spots for handlebars and some off-camber sections. Some easy climbing and a challenging spot I like to lead the group through. Yup, that nutzy climb. The Clif Rim trail is included in this part of the run.]

    B. Trapper's Technical Jam (Parkwood loop with hillclimbs) then back to the parking lot. (should be around the 11 mile point here)
[ Confident beginners/Intermediates - contains technical descents of intermediate level with challenging climbs up scrabbly embankments. The Parkwood loop has a very nice uphill loop that will boost heart rates for a very nice cardio run. Main points visited are The Whoopsies, Grand Canyon, and the infamous jeep trail climb. Folks wanting to start working on some of their technical skills and take advantage of some sections to pop into the 3rd chainring will enjoy this part of the ride. Those who desire will have the opportunity to catch some air or to hit some beginner level drops. Try something new and experience the trill of accomplishment. Safety first! Don't do what you're not comfortable with and don't overestimate your skills. See what challenges are on the trail, set a goal to achieve and work on it for future rides. You'll surprise yourself. I try to learn something every ride. ]

    C. Head out toward the Bandera loop, continue under the bridge and up the Power Line climb, Cross a few streets, hit Tezel, down to Braun, under the bridge and back to the Bandera Road bridge where we head back to OP. (20-22 miles total by then I'm guessing)
[ Confident beginners with good cardio / Intermediates - Climb up to cell tower from parking lot and drop in at the south end of the top paved trail and then hit the double hump at the Amphitheater (sp). Off camber experience on right side of Leon Creek with a couple of places to speed up the pace. The main challenge here is the Power Line Climb. This will burn out folks that aren't used to climbing. We'll be passing by the remains of Mainland Trails and might just swing in and see what's left. Two places to hit 25 MPH + on rough doubletrack downhill. The most dangerous places are the street crossings. Figures. Final climb up to Tezel will leave your Quads burning. A quick 1mile mostly downhill road ride will give you opportunity to recover before we hit trail again. The greenbelt we will follow back to Bandera Road bridge is wide open doubletrack so it's big ring time. After hitting the Bandera Road bridge we go back to tight twisty singletrack all with some off-camber sections leading back to the Amphitheater, which is where we'll climb up and out at. Cool down run to the parking lot and high-fives for all. An alternate ending would be to cool down with a reverse Perimeter run. It's mostly a downhill jaunt anyway and it would add a couple of more miles to the total. We'll see how we feel.]

I think that describes the MITG experience fairly well. Did I leave anything out folks? (besides the gasps for air, retching, and cries for mercy heard ringing through the forest?)
