Thread: The Sunday OP MITG ride....

.. went real well. We had some newbies to OP show up that seemed to enjoy themselves. T__ eventually showed up and gave us a good tour of the TT loop, then peeled off to leave us to our own devices. I took the folks on around the Bandera loop and back and had 3 folks peel off to the parking lot as the rest of us headed out to the whoopsies.

Showed Doug some jump areas and all of us hit the big hill climb, then on out to Parkwood to hit some of the jumps there. Doug took that insane creekbed jump. Way crazy.

Had a good time and met some new folks. No biffs, bumps, or bruises. What a way to spend a Sunday morning!

Eventually, meaning ride at 9, I show up at 9:06. Sorry, I'm just such a slacker...

It was a pretty good size group. Hope you all had fun.

Dude, we were doing some Jumps. When was the last time a MITG crew sessioned those? Wish you could have hung in there, you could have showed us some of your stylin'. Thanks again for showing us the loop.

Which jumps are you talking about. I guess you saw that I built up the one by the Whoop De Bowl. I session jumps every time I go by certain ones. Which jumps did you session the most?

Yesterday Troy and I did some pretty fast, far jumps off the basketball course. Landed pretty well into the flat. Last week Troy and I sessioned the built up jump at the WDB and had some fun even though the dirt was loose.

Building the backyard deck was in my cards this weekend. Otherwise, I would've loved to stay. It was a fun group today.

Letsee...
- Jump by the whoopsies on the straight-away
- Jump out by parkwood that crosses over the main trail. (4-wheeler guy made it) 3 of us took it.
- Jump into the creekbed (4-wheeler guy). You come down the hill and instead of pulling right you just haul ass into the jump. Doug launched across it blindly! One of them "Oh look, a jump..."
- Small freeride jump opportunities here and there.
- Prue road, whoopdee bowl side, beginner jumps almost under the bridge, Doug hit them, I was getting a little wore out, will hit them next time.
We all stood and marveled at the work that has gone into the BMXer area. (none of our crew was willing to try them, but I bet Doug will when he sees someone hitting them)

I had a great time riding the new trails. There was a good crowd and a good pace. O.P. Schnabel has a great trail system. If it wasn't so far away.

That's funny. It's around the same distance as Mainland from your place. Are there new priorities keeping you from being able to travel like you were doing 3+ years ago with CloudCover???

It is about the same distance from Mainland, and I had trouble getting to Mainland as often as I wanted. Threre's always things to do when a family is involved. Priorities aren't new, maybe reordered now and again, but not so many new ones. Weekends work best for me coming to O.P. and the traffic is lighter. I'll be back. Look forward to riding again with you T__.

I look forward to riding with you too John. Jim McKay and B.A. have even made some rides lately. Along with Heffyrod, that makes five of the CloudCover riders who have been at OP recently.

I am going to be opening a section to create a huge loop at OP by the end of the summer. The loop should be around 8 to 12 miles total when I am finished. The Time Trial hits a good section of the first 4.5 miles and then I'm creating a path that takes you to the Bandera trails up by the Golf Course and will finish up at the TT finish. Mileage will depend on how much land the new homes at Prue Rd take up. There'll still be another 5 miles of trails or more that won't be included in the loop because it would cause overlap.

Good ride guys. Enjoyed putting some faces with names from the board. I'm kinda with John on this one. What a great place to ride....if it just wasn't across town from me. Weekends work best so hopefully I'll be out at another MITG soon.

I'm going to devote a few weekends to playing uber-dad and then I'll start working on the loop. I'm still planning the best way to maximize mileage in my head and will put it to the trails soon. Geez, I'm starting to sound like an XC racer or a Trapper type of guy.

After the loop is set in stone, I'll be creating freeride heaven at the Amphitheatre. Hope I can get some people out to help me with that cause it'll be a big draw at OP some day. Biggest problem there will be channeling standing water away from the area. Wish I could get a dump truck or two full of dirt down there. That would kick ass. Maybe I'll have to attend a Leon Creek meeting to see if our friends there can help in any way.

Cool. I wanna help, too. My schedule will be wide open after this weekend.

Is on as usual! I bonked my legs out twice so far this week so I'm not setting aaannnyyy kind of rocket pace. I've got 93 miles logged so far this week and tomorrow is going to be a Foghat classic....

Holy Cow! I may be able to ride OP in the morning before I head off to Dallas. Woooo! My legs are bonky but I'm still going!

Was out riding Kyle Seale road and rode into a gawd-awful smell of fermenting dead skunk... then saw the buzzard picking the guts out of it on the other side of the road... Nasty nasty nasty... I swear the smell was so bad I could taste it. eeeewww!

Dang.... I went back onto my low carb thing on Monday and haven't hit ketosis yet. Translated that means that since I've cut my carb intake down to 25 grams or less per day, my body hasn't figured out where to get fuel from yet. Did great for about 7 miles then I started spiraling down into bonk land. whoa.... I haven't felt like that in a loooooooong time. I want to lose about 20 lbs and after todays ride it shows that I'm 8 lbs lighter than Monday... Most of that is water though.
Anyway, great turn out today and had some new faces. Trails were in great shape, nice and tacky. I'll see you all out there next sunday.
