As a kid, I thought the Joske's Christmas display was the most awesome thing I'd ever seen up to that point in my life.

I loved the bumper cars at Playland Park. I still remember the funky 70's purple and green colors on them.

Many, many of my and my friend's birthday parties at Kiddie Park. Tame as it is, that rollercoaster scared the crap out of me though (as do most rollercoasters still).

Many birthday parties at Carvel Skateland off Recoleta or the one by Galaxy Theatre.

I remember seeing Star Wars at the Northwest 6 for I think $3.25?

those little pink tickets to Central Park Fox Theatre's Children's Summer Film Festival to watch Herbie the Love Bug and Tom Sawyer for the zillionth time.

A crapply little AM radio playing Jackson 5 on KTSA by the pool. And the KTSA buttons and some kind of competition where you could win gold or silver bars?

The bread sample you got at the end of the Butter Krust bakery tour and the "beer" you got at the end of the Lone Star Brewery and Hall of Horns field trip were the BEST stuff I'd ever had.

Remember Super Slide water slide park about '77 near what's now Sun & Ski at Bitters & 281? I thought that place was pretty fun, till some kid hid in the intake pool and eventually got sucked into it, and they shut it down.

I remember Wonderland Mall had a bunch of little orange tiles all over the inside of it.

Riding with my mom in our VW Bug on many trips to Waitz Model Market on Sunset which is now I believe the EZ's and the Orowheat bread store on Nacogdoches and I remember some store called Globe on Eisenhower Rd. Kiddie City was the bomb. I think the Century Building is there now.

--you saw Return of the Jedi at the theater that used to be inside Northstar Mall, right where Sharper Image is now; you ate at the Tall Texan right next door afterward.

--you ate a burger from the Ize Box on Broadway or a Beanburger from Sills on Austin Highway.

--you remember when you could buy groceries at Handy Andy and hardware at Handy Dan.

when I was a kid, we used to get a free ride on the Brakenridge Eagle by picking up a ticket stub that people would throw on the ground at 1st stop. They would let you re-board if you had a ticket stub.

i saw The Exorcist at the Aztec theater and saw the spurs play the celtics with bird, mchale, parish... at the arena. my daughter was able to ride the horses at brack before they shut it down.

San Pedro and West Ave. We use to stuff people in the trunk and sneak in beer. Use to go to the Fred. Rd drive in and watch rated X movies there.

CHINGOW these are bringing back some memories. George, I think you hit home with just about every one. As soon as I saw La Feria posted, I immediately thought of SOLO SERV. And HOLY CRAP!....JAMMIN and PM Magazine.

How about this....

-before going outside you call 226-3232 to see what the temperature is instead of opening a door or a window to find out.

-The Max played your highschool prom. (or Big Deal or Passing Strangers).

-you hung out at Mr. G's, Illusions, or even better.....Pappys.

-you've ever been dared to steal the Gucci flag from Frost Bros. in Northstar mall. Bonus points if you ever actually TRIED it.

-your mother fed all of the kids with a half dozen chopped beef sandwiches from Bill Millers for $4!

-you ate bean rolls and guacamole cups from Taco Hut.

-you think Henry's Puffy Tacos are too commercial or mainstream.

-you had your little league team party at Shakey's Pizza.

northeast preserve is Mac Park. It used to be called this when it was way out in the boonies. It used to look like Government Canyon back then.
