OK, OK the floating rocks were in a fountain that is still there today, sort of.Originally Posted by Jason G.
There is a courtyard in Northstar Mall in the northest corner. It is surrounded by Foleys, Walgreens and Luby's. Inthe middle of the courtyard is a sunken area that used to be a fountain. That is where the floating rocks used to be.
When I was a kid, Northstar Mall consisted of 3 stores. Joskies, Walgreens and Luby's. They were situated around an indoor air conditioned courtyard. All the kids for miles around would go the courtyard, because it was the only place for 50 miles that had:
1. Air Conditioning
2. Floating Lava Rocks in a fountain that we could play in when the manager of the Walgreens wasnt looking.
3. A soda fountain at the Walgreens where we could get an Ice Cream Soda afterwards.
The manager would come running after us when we all jumped in the fountain, screaming and splashing. One time he slipped and almost broke his neck chasing us. We would always make up with him later, when our Mom was almost finished shopping, so we could get her to take us to the soda fountain.
The rocks were big round rocks of lava pumis (sp?), they were lighter than water so they floated on top. It was a very weird sight that I have not forgotten.

Beer or no beer, I'm sure we'd be up for a mojo skate night.

Holy Crap, I totally forgot I used to see movies at NorthStar Mall's theatre.
I still call Frost Bank's time & temp.
Passing Strangers played our H.S. Prom cuz they were all graduating with me (or were supposed to). I wonder what those dudes are doing now? Another band from that era, but much older: the Klocks reformed and even played one of my company events a few years ago. I knew a couple of those dudes from back then and had a little dirt on me, so they heckled me a bit in front of my co-workers.
I loved a mushroom pizza and a root beer and watching Little Rascals movies at Fargo's (BrookHollow) as a kid. I'm not totally sure, but I think they had the 1st Space Invaders machine I'd ever seen.
Later, I liked Godfather's OK too, but the crust on those pizzas was ridiculously thick. The Godfathers at BrookHollow was the 1st place I'd ever seen a Ms PacMan machine.
Castle Golf & Games was the 1stplace I'd ever seen PacMan or anywhere near that many video games in one place.

Saw Jaws at the Valley High Drive-in.
Went swimming at the pool on Medina AFB and the little park out on Pearsall by the bridge that is now part of the dump.
Remember when Central Park had all the cool stores and North Star sucked except for the german store with the Haribo gummy bears -- only place in town that had them.

Passing Strangers moved up to Dallas and have gone through several changes. Not sure if they still are, but at one time they stopped playing covers and became an all original band. There's another band locally, Out of Phase, that is an offshoot of Passing Strangers. Some members of Passing Strangers left and formed Popgun. Popgun later became Out of Phase. But I doubt there are any guys in Out of Phase that went to HS with you. I remember the night Passing Strangers played one of their first gigs. It was at Mr. G's and they had 3 bands "auditioning". Passing Strangers went on last and blew the other two away. I remember their keyboard stand was home made from PVC pipe.Originally Posted by Dave K
The Klocks are still around. Brent Fields lives in Boerne and is good friends with the guitarist in my band. The only place you MAY see these guys play locally is a private party or Sherlock's (I know you love that Dave) because it's the only place locally that pays decent. Otherwise, they're on the road every weekend playing Dallas, Houston, Austin or OKC. Same with Out of Phase....they rarely play locally.
