I'm going to park at my workplace to avoid the traffic. If anybody else wants to meet me there, I'll be at Cavender Cadillac (801 Broadway) @ 8:30. We'll depart about 8:45

I've been under the weather all week but hope to make it out for this. Will park at the First Friday meeting point (my dad's office at Nueva & Main) and roll on over there. Anyone else is welcome to park there and join me. I'm loading up the music box with christmas tunes and will be pulling the trailer again. Wonder where we're going this time?

Fun Fun Fun - I'm not missing any more of these unless I'm out o' town!!!

Cool stop @ the dam @ OLLU - if not for the state of mind I would've tried to ride the spillway La Tuna was great too as always.

High point of the evening was when that dude took my Coke Black bottle full of Jager from Kenny's pannier ice chest (unbeknownst to me) & drank 1/2 of it not knowing what the hell it was. Watching him try to prop up his bike with a stick afterwards was priceless

Thanks Kenny for the great parking spot & guide!!

It was TOTAL wes'side! We even cruised for streetwalkers along Guadalupe!

Having graduated from St. Martin Hall (parochial school run by OLLU) in the mid '80s, I was pretty familiar with the area, but had never ventured down to the flood control system that served as our destination. Technically, I think it's called the Elmendorf Lake/Alazan Creek floodway. Pretty cool actually and it wasn't as tagged up as I thought it would be.

I have to commend Mark and Brad for their destination picks. I also have to hand it to them for sheer bravado. Either they are naive or just clueless because we rode right through the heart of the Alazan Apache courts. Pulling the music trailer, I was kind of worried that someone might want the car stereo mounted inside the trailer and try to bikejack me for it. But to be honest, with our group of about 20 and with Christmas carols playing from the box, we were greeted entirely by cheers, waves and even a motorcycle rev salute which totally kept us at ease and in great spirits. And as I told Mark, they managed to find the only streets on the west side that didn't have stray dogs running loose. We didn't encounter a single one. About the only thing I didn't care for was riding back along Buena Vista. Traffic drives far too fast on the train track overpass (just west of UTSA Downtown) for us to have been mixing it up with them at that hour.

Other than that, it was a fun ride and with the re-energized downtown thanks to the Holiday lights, I look forward to our other downtown rides this holiday season.

    OMIGOD!
When I was a Probation Officer doing home visits, we didn't even go through there during the day without a armed sheriff escort.

Didn't I read somewhere that the organizers were new in town?

D'oh, I should have checked myspace:

From: The Downtown Highlife Bicycle Club

    Date: Dec 29, 2006 10:55 AM
Subject Update - Possible Rain Out
Body: It's come to my attention that the weather is going to suck ass 2nite precisely at the time we'd ride. Something like 70% thunderstorms at 9pm. In other words, yes, a perfect storm.

It seems a lot of people have come into town and we're planning on going 2nite. In the event that its pouring down rain, I'm trying to come up with a "Plan B". It wouldn't involve riding unfortunately, but at least going to a bar. Given the amount of people, Bar America seems like the best idea.

Also, spread the word to anyone you know who might be riding.

In conclusion: pouring down rain=Bar America...

...where we'll exchange stories of what could have been.

Roger and myself are definately going. It's such a beautiful night, it'd be a shame not to enjoy it. If anyone cares to join us, we'll be in front of the Alamo @ 9
