Sweet, thanks Max. All she was missing was Google Earth. I installed it, and it's working like a champ. Now all I need to do is convince her I need to start using it for bike rides.![]()

what about the entrance by Blanco and Voelcker lane? i found direction on this map, and that area is closer to where i live: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en...6&iwstate1=dir
I found this link: http://www.mountainbiketx.com/texas/...aladocreek.php
At the bottom, there are 14 pictures of the Salado Creek Greenway. Picture 14 shows a See-Saw. I have been looking for it (if it still exists). The article was done in Dec. 2008. Has anyone seen this see-saw? If so, is it in the labyrinth of trails south of the Elementary School & north of Huebner Rd. ?
PS - You were talking about gadgets. I found a sweet deal on a bike cam @ Sams. The website says little due to it being a 'seasonal' item, but it is an Oregon Scientific ATC2K w/ 1GB flash drive extra for $53.11. Here is Sam's link: http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/nav...landing=407019

Whoops ... a blonde moment on my part. Sorry for the double post !!! I tried to edit 'picture 14' to 'picture 12'.
mack_turtle, the google map link you posted is where I turned around yesterday. You can ride from there all the way to 1604 on pretty much nothing but single track.
alan3894, I saw the see-saw yesterday, but I have no clue which section of trail it was on. It still exists, but one of these other cats who know's their way around there better will have to give you directions.

Thanks Ride4Beer for the info, that the elusive see-saw exists. I shall go looking for it today.
Mack, that's where I turned around as well. Rather than getting on the road/Salado Greenbelt, just look down in the creekbed before you start to go up that hill. From there you'll be able to run all the way to 1604, and supposedly past.
so it looks like the best place to go would be to park my car at the dead-end at the end of Mill Creek Drive and follow the dirt path to the creek from there? it's hard to tell from the map, but the satellite photo looks like there's a dirt path all the way to the creek from there.
I always hit the See-saw if it is orientated correctly. It's not too far away from the school.

Just a quick note. Yes there is a teeter and a few other toys to play o
n, however, some are not on the most "public' of lan
d if u get my drift. So please refrain from flagging these already established trails. Went yester. And someone had flagged every 20' unnecessary and not very aesthetic
All I leave on the trails are tightly spaced XC tires tracks.![]()

I just got back from riding and found the see-saw! Thanks guys !!! If you ever wanted to get an idea of how far you have ridden, walked or run, Google has a neat tool:
http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/
Here is how to use it:
Say you are starting at the Elementary School, type "3300 North Loop 1604 West San Antonio, TX 78231" in the box to the right of Jump to... and click Go. Zoom in.
Click Satellite or Hybrid (if you want street names). Set the draw route to Manually.
Click the Recording button and begin by double clicking on every turn and see the mileage grow.
i finally got a good, long solo ride through Salado today. i am new to mountain biking and it was sooo fun. however, i got lost and ended up in neighborhoods three times! one of the times i had to take my front wheel off to squeeze between an electric gate and a stone wall. i think i will have to go riding with someone who knows the trail a little better next time.
I'll be at the school at around 1pm this afternoon (warning; I am a bit on the slow side) and will go to Blanco and back toward the cliffs behind Roger's Ranch
Crap, too bad my MB is out of order right now. Friggin bike shop has no idea when it'll be back either.
A couple of weeks ago I went back to OP and Leon. Overall I'm sad at how much that place is changed. I saw three guys riding around down in the creek bed in jeans and polo shirts. Of course the topper was the MB tour group that I kept running into which were all over the trails going every which way.
Salado reminds me of the way OP & Leon use to be but with fewer people, which is awesome.
First time to Salado: I did the long solo thing yesterday, starting at Blanco, riding to 1604 and back. There's so much stuff to pick from I think I was only riding the opposite direction on the same stuff 1/3 of the time. I too got off track multiple times, but still had plenty of fun. I think you could plot a singletrack path the whole way through that a comfort bike could handle, but there's so many other options going over rocks, roots, babyheads, nekkid bedrock, and between boulders its silly.
Had one spill within view of a ladder bridge where I managed to tear a sock while smacking an ankle, scraped up my calf and also scratched my seatpost, but not the frame or cranks. Weird. That shit on the west canyon side near that bridge is not easy.
Overall, likely my new favorite trail. had to dodge some kids and dog walkers on the southern half, but has to be expected on a sunday afternoon. Its more like OP than Mac and being in a canyon on a trail a bit less traveled is quite nice. I had fun on my rigid 9er, but a FS bike would be a better choice here.
It's becoming my favorite place to go. There really is some nice tech stuff there.
It very close to Freetail also and their wonderful IPA!!

Anyone ride early Saturdays? I usually try and hit the trail at 6:45AM, starting at Huebner and heading northing to 1604 (or occassionally in the other direction towards Blanco).
Also, how extensive is the trail north of 1604? I went as far as the paint-ball-riddled shack but then got spooked and turned around.
